American University is seeking a motivated and creative recreation professional to join our Recreational Sports & Fitness (RecFit) team. This individual will manage and develop Special Events and Wellness Initiatives for our department, while assisting with the daily operations of three fitness centers. Position SummaryThis position is responsible for the development, management and supervision of the RecFit wellness programs. The Fitness Coordinator partners across campus to help coordinate all special events for Recreational Sports and Fitness, including our late-night programs, wellness education initiatives, and programs targeting underserved populations. The Fitness Coordinator manages, hires, and trains a team of student employees. The Fitness Coordinator also acts as evening Manager on Duty two evenings / week. This position reports to and works closely with the Associate Director, Recreational Sports & Fitness.
Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Fitness, Nutrition, Health Education or related field, or the equivalent in education, training and/or experience. At least two years of relevant work experience. Current CPR and AED certification. A nationally recognized and accredited personal training, group fitness, or wellness certification. Good written and verbal communication skills.
Hiring offers for this position are contingent on the successful completion of a background check.
Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Fitness, Nutrition, Health Education or related field preferred. Experience in working in recreation or wellness promotion.

We also manage Cassell Fitness Center and Duber Fitness Center. Cassell is approximately 8,000 square feet of fitness and multiple purpose studio space. Duber is 1,000 square feet and primarily used for personal and small group training.
