T&B Tube Company, Inc has an opening for Shipping Material Handlers to join our team in the Miller area of Gary, IN. As a Shipping Material Handler, you will be responsible for safely and accurately loading flatbed and box trucks. We load our steel tubing onto trucks by use of a pendulum overhead crane and/or forklifts. This role also safely transfers the material to designated storage and staging areas. May be asked to unload slit coils if needed. Success in this position will include the ability to understand how weight distribution and packaging can affect loads. Must possess the ability to get drivers back on the road in a required time frame, while giving excellent customer service. You will have an obligation to audit orders for accuracy by finding location of order in warehouse, correct piece count of order and placing correct order on truck for our customers. You will also need to visually inspect all loads for damage or packaging integrity prior to loading truck.

Shipping Material Handlers work 44 hour per week. 9-hour shifts Mon-Thurs, 8-hour shift Fridays. We have openings on 1st Shift (5AM-2PM) and 2nd Shift (1PM-10PM). Possible 8-hours mandatory overtime on Saturdays.

Qualifications

Education and/or equivalent experience required:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Forklift and Overhead crane experience
• Excellent Customer Service skills
• Minimum 6-month experience in a grocery store, warehouse environment, industrial environment
• Minimum 1 year experience or more with overhead cranes, forklifts, scanners. 

Training required:

• Vantage computer system/ using a scanner
• ISO 9000 overview
• Forklift and crane certification

Physical requirements:

• Exposure to loud noise and ability to work in changing environmental conditions, such as hot or cold weather
• Working in proximity to physical hazards, such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, overhead cranes and electrical current
• Standing/walking up to 9 hours per shift
• Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, etc.
• Bend, reach, kneel and lay on back
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodations.
