TÜV SÜD America is seeking a seasoned, aggressive Test Lab Manager to oversee the operations for the Auburn Hills Environmental & EV Battery Lab. Initially this position will oversee the testing operations at the existing Auburn Hills facility but will adjust to include all business at the new 80,000sqft facility opening in 2023. This position will support and be heavily involved with the development and startup of the new lab. This position will develop and drive processes, efficiency, and culture into the new lab to ensure customers receive world-class testing, communication, and experience.

Essential Functions:

- Operational management of the Auburn Hills lab. This will include maintaining compliance to TÜV SÜD Policies and ISO17025 Guidelines. Setting operational KPIs to monitor region performance, all associated supervisory responsibilities, assessing training needs, conducting performance reviews, etc.

- Collaborate with other Lab Managers and Business Line Leaders to ensure the lab is staffed and equipped to meet business needs and forecasted growth plans.

- Support customer meetings, inquiries, testing, etc as needed to support business development of the region.

- Create an annual budget and financial forecast, monitor spending on a continuous basis, and provide monthly adjustments to the forecast as required.

- Develop and oversee the Auburn Hills technical leads to ensure the operational performance and timing of projects are maintained to maximize revenue and margin to meet customer performance/timing targets and company financial goals.

- Support the hiring, training, growth and development of the technicians and engineers, particularly in battery technology, testing, performance and safety – as the business grows at the existing site and then moves to the new site in 2023. Support the short/medium/long-term development of these employees.

- Collaborate with the global TRN battery teams to share lessons learned and implement best practices.

- Develop lab and equipment strategy and best practices to support efficient and cost-effective lab operations.

- Collaborate with the Business Line leaders to craft future strategic plans and capital projects.

- Support the installation and commissioning of the equipment in the new Michigan Battery Lab in Auburn Hills, Michigan as well as the transfer of equipment and business from the existing site to the new site, minimizing customer disruption and inefficiency.

- Ensure the site operations maintain compliance with environment, health, and safety (EHS) requirements.

Job Qualifications:

- Well-versed in the technical/engineering details of HV battery testing operations, equipment and facilities.

- Demonstrated ability to manage lab operations to drive revenue and satisfy customer deliverables.

- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.

- Aggressive attitude toward growth and improvement.

- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.

- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Self-starter with a positive outlook and motivated attitude.

Education:

- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical), or equivalent experience

Experience:

- Preferably of 3-5 years’ experience working with HV battery testing and/or development

- Minimum of 5 years direct experience working with Automotive customers; other transportation industries a plus (medium/heavy truck, off-road, construction, agriculture, marine, aero, etc.)

- Minimum 5 years of supervisory/leadership experience, including development of individuals and teams

- Minimum 5 years operational experience in a lab environment with financial/cost responsibilities

Material and Equipment Directly Used:

- General office equipment; telephone, personal computer, printer, copier, scanner and other communication tools.

- Test laboratory equipment within specific discipline (i.e.ENV, BAT, EMC, etc.)
