DescriptionTahoe Forest Products (TFP) was formed for the purpose of constructing a commercial sawmill in the Tahoe region to offer a nearby destination to deliver salvaged timber. TFP is dedicated to the responsible commercial milling of logs sourced within our region. Our operations support forest health as part of critical fire fuels reduction efforts on public and private land, and in the salvage, clean-up and restoration of local areas impacted by devastating wildfires. Tahoe Forest Products is hiring a Machine Operator! The day shift Machine Operator, Sawmill is responsible operating various sawmill machine centers and equipment such as a debarker, bandsaws, edgers and other production related machinery and equipment to safely and efficiently produce various sizes and grades of rough sawn lumber. Safety is of the utmost importance for this position, as this position is required to work with machinery, as well as on elevated levels and in confined spaces. Essential Functions may include the following or other duties as assigned:
At each machine center, operate control panels such as Human-Machine Interface (HMI) or console mounted buttons, toggle switches or joysticks and other hand & foot controls to process logs into rough cut lumber
Monitor production flow and work with supervisors and other operators to ensure a smooth and efficient flow of production through the sawmill both upstream and downstream
Monitor machine center output and work with supervisors and quality control to ensure product quality remains within specification
Assist maintenance personnel and saw filers in duties related to machine operation, performance, troubleshooting and/or saw changes before and/or after shift
Occasionally handle lumber to clear jambs, cross-ups or remove broken pieces from machinery, lumber transfers and belts
Occasionally sweep and shovel woody debris into cleanup hoppers, bins, and conveyors using tools such as an air hose, shovel, broom, rake, and wheelbarrow
Occasionally remove wood waste and debris from production areas
Follow safe operating policies and practices for all machinery as instructed and assigned
Perform related duties as required or directed by supervisors, and assist others as requested or assigned
Properly wear area-specific and job-specific safety gear including dust masks and harnesses when required

Minimum: Must be 18 years of age or older
Minimum: High school diploma/GED, required
Must demonstrate excellent safety standards and attendance
Must possess basic computer literacy, mechanical reasoning, and problem-solving skills
Operate a two-way radio with clear verbal communication and follow verbal instructions in demanding high sound level environments
Ability to understand, clearly communicate, and follow all safety rules and policies
Ability to read and write checklists, reports, and correspondence. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, memos, etc.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
