DescriptionTahoe Forest Products (TFP) was formed for the purpose of constructing a commercial sawmill in the Tahoe region to offer a nearby destination to deliver salvaged timber. TFP is dedicated to the responsible commercial milling of logs sourced within our region. Our operations support forest health as part of critical fire fuels reduction efforts on public and private land, and in the salvage, clean-up and restoration of local areas impacted by devastating wildfires.

Tahoe Forest Products is hiring a Saw Filer! The Saw Filer is responsible for maintaining, repairing and changing saws & knives while also being able to service and maintain saw filing room and sawmill machinery in proper running condition.
Essential Functions may include the following or other duties as assigned:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, stand, walk, bend, climb, reach, lift, stoop, squat, twist, reach above shoulders, ascend and descend ladders, and have specific vision abilities to include depth perception, close and distance vision, and ability to adjust focus working with computer business equipment and control panels. Ability to perform heavy physical labor. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion. The noise level in the work environment is usually high level.
The overall nature of the position is extremely active requiring physical exertion. There is occasional exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, inclement weather, and temperature changes ranging from -20°F to 120°F.

- Bench band saws and round saws
- Fit band saws and round saws
- Braze or weld cracks in saw blades
- Clean, mill and set micarta or babbitt saw guides
- Sharpen chipper knives
- Help in band saw or round saw scheduled and unscheduled saw changes
- Set-up and perform routine maintenance on filing equipment such as top & face grinders, side grinders, tippers, and guide milling equipment
- Perform periodic maintenance and line-up of sawmill equipment such as band saw and round saw machine centers including grinding band mill wheels
- Troubleshoot saw issues such as lumber marking or off size lumber
- 1 years of relevant saw filing experience
- Must willing and demonstrate an aptitude to learn all essential functions of a filing room
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Stand for extended periods of time
- Practice routine housekeeping in fling room and on sawmill equipment
- Overtime may be required, as well as periodically working different shifts to ensure production needs are met
- Strong work ethic with the ability to be flexible, work in a changing environment, and work as part of a highly functional team
- Knowledge and understanding of sawmill manufacturing processes, including familiarity with mechanical, electrical, compressed gas and hydraulic systems
- Minimum: Must be 18 years of age or older
- Minimum: High school diploma/GED, required
- Must demonstrate excellent safety standards and attendance
- Must possess basic computer literacy, mechanical reasoning skills, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to understand, clearly communicate, and follow all safety rules and policies
- Ability to communicate via 2-way radio in English and in emergency situations
- Ability to read and write checklists, reports, and correspondence. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, memos, etc.
- Ability to analyze and perform complex computations with reasonable speed and accuracy. Ability to understand a tape measure and perform basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
