Job Summary: Accountable to Sr. Flavorist/ Director of Flavor Creation for creating finished flavors using basic natural and/or synthetic flavor raw materials in response to customer requests and market trends.
Essential Job Functions
  • Evaluates new raw materials and assists QC in organoleptic evaluation of manufactured flavor products.
  • Matches flavors using both analytical and sensory tools with resulting sales
  • Understands and applies technologies to flavor creation;
  • Exhibits independent flavor creation acumen for flavors within the various market product categories i.e. Beverage, confections, bakery, dairy, savory etc.
  • Looks to expand understanding of the use of natural and synthetic flavor materials in flavor creation;
  • Creates successful profitable flavors without using existing formulations with minimum ingredients that are production suitable.
  • Works collaboratively with Applications team to design and develop winning flavor formulations that exceed the expectations of customers.
  • Develops custom flavor formulations for specific projects
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on raw materials, regulations, spray drying and flavor emulsions.
  • Applies a thorough technical understanding of flavor raw materials into the design, quality and stability of flavor systems.
  • Develops brand new flavor formulations to enable continued expansion of Takasago’s flavor library / best choice list.
  • Works with cross functional teams including sales, purchasing and production to transition flavors from Creation to Production.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for trainees and junior flavorists, at varying experience levels
Educational Qualifications: Bachelor degree in Food Science, Life Sciences, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering required. Certified member of the Society of Flavor Chemists required.
Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in the flavor laboratory with excellent olfactive and creative and cognitive skills required.
Competencies: The successful candidate demonstrates the ability to be a creative, scientific flavor developer. Self-motivated with the ability to lead project teams and programs with minimal guidance from leadership. Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the customers and lab. Deep knowledge of ingredients and potential uses. Strong communication skills. Must have the ability to confidently communicate complex technical information to customers as well as colleagues
Demonstrates passion for flavor creations Comfortable in a chemical laboratory setting exposed to strong odors and standing for long periods of time. Ability to work with cross-functional teams at multi levels within the organization. Demonstrates professionalism. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
