Community Engagement Intern

Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Community Engagement Intern at Take MAR. As a non-profit organization dedicated to regenerating our environment and communities, Take MAR focuses on strengthening the human-nature connection to improve physical and mental health and promote pro-environmental behaviors. Our vision is a world where our environment and communities are interconnected, balanced, and healthy.

This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community outreach, volunteer management, and event coordination within the environmental conservation sector. While the majority of the work can be done remotely, occasional field work will be required for events and activities such as tree waterings and Impact Days. We are aiming to start this as a summer internship, but we are open to flexible start dates. There will be potential opportunities at the end of the summer to extend the internship based on performance and organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Member Engagement: 

  • Communication: Draft communications materials such as newsletters, press releases, and email updates to keep the community informed about our activities. 
  • Contribute to monthly newsletters with engaging content, including stories, recipes, and volunteer highlights. Support in conducting polls and surveys to gather member feedback on communication preferences and benefits. 
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Help collect, organize, and analyze data related to community engagement efforts to measure impact and inform future strategies. 
  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the community engagement team, including scheduling meetings, maintaining databases, and responding to inquiries. 

Outreach and Volunteer Recruitment: 

  • Community Outreach: Identify and reach out to key stakeholders, including local businesses, community groups, educational institutions, and others 
  • Volunteer Coordination: Recruit volunteers for various community projects and events. 
  • Assist in identifying potential speakers for Sunline discussions and Community Connections events. 
  • Collaborate in cultivating relationships with Eagle Scouts, local universities, and schools to explore partnership opportunities. 
  • Support in creating promotional materials and pitches to attract volunteers and partners. 
  • Media: Create engaging content for social media platforms to promote community initiatives, events, and campaigns. Blogs for newsletters, etc 

Event Support: 

  • Provide assistance at various events, including tree waterings, Impact Days, summer workshops, and corporate plantings. 
  • Event Planning: Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of community events, workshops, and meetings. 
  • Assist in logistical coordination and participant engagement to ensure successful event outcomes.

Expectations:

As a Community Engagement Intern, we expect you to:

  • Commit approximately 10 hours per week to internship-related activities, including both remote tasks and occasional field work.
  • Attend once weekly virtual meetings (1- 1.5 hours) with the internship supervisor to review tasks, provide updates, and receive feedback.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of our organization.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with team members, volunteers, and external partners.
  • Take initiative and show enthusiasm for learning and contributing to various projects and initiatives.
  • Be reliable and punctual in fulfilling assigned tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Actively seek feedback and opportunities for growth and development throughout the internship period.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a passion for engaging diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental conservation and sustainability initiatives.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with email marketing platforms and social media tools (preferred).
