Title: Application Product Specialist COBOL

The Client
Our contracted client, The USDA is looking for a COBOL specialist to modernize their legacy applications built on COBOL. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing mainframe systems using COBOL, VSAM, and MVS

Responsibilities

• Proficiency in COBOL programming language
• Experience working in mainframe environments
• Ability to write and maintain complex COBOL applications
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of database management systems
• Able to perform all functional duties independently on high-visibility programs, or mission-critical aspects of a given program;
• Able to oversee the efforts of direct reporting resources and/or be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job;
• Experience training, mentoring, and providing technical direction to less experienced personnel;
• Extensive experience with designing, coding, testing, debugging and implementing system software solutions
• Extensive experience monitoring installed software packages, troubleshooting software problems, documenting them, and working with applicable vendors to resolve them;

Qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years of experience with application development testing
• Must have experience creating test scripts and use case scenarios for user acceptance
• A minimum of 7 years of experience with Microsoft Test Manager Suite or similar tool
• Must have at least 7 years of experience developing Training and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) materials
• 7 years of experience working to facilitate collaboration across the full range of executive, business, and technical resources
• 7 years of experience with testing efforts to include test plans, test scenarios for SIT and UAT, and organizing users to facilitate effective tests

Highly Desired

• Experience working on state government projects/ assignments

Education/Certification

• A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences or relations business field or equivalent experience
