Our client is a leader in the renewable energy sector, known for their excellence in executing utility-scale solar developments while emphasizing community collaboration and environmental stewardship. Currently, they are seeking a Director of Development who will spearhead their efforts in leading utility-scale solar projects. Leveraging your expertise, you will navigate complex regulatory landscapes and foster strategic partnerships to ensure successful project development aligned with company objectives. This role presents a unique opportunity to drive innovation and make a significant impact in the expanding renewable energy market. Key responsibilities for this role will include (but not limited to):
Leading the full lifecycle development of utility-scale solar projects, from initial concept through to commercial operation.
Managing site identification, land acquisition, permitting, interconnection, and stakeholder engagement processes.
Negotiating agreements with landowners, off-takers, suppliers, and strategic partners to optimize project economics and ensure successful execution.
Developing strategies to navigate complex regulatory environments, including zoning, permitting, and environmental assessments.
Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with local government officials, regulatory agencies, landowners, and community stakeholders to facilitate project development and secure necessary approvals.
Conducting market analysis and due diligence to identify and assess new development opportunities while mitigating risks.
Collaborating effectively with internal teams such as engineering, finance, legal, and operations to ensure alignment with company objectives.
Required and desired skillsets, experience and qualifications for this role:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, environmental science, or related field.
7-12 years of proven experience in developing utility-scale solar projects or related renewable energy projects.
Strong knowledge of regulatory and permitting processes, especially at the local government level.
Demonstrated commercial acumen, including negotiating complex agreements and managing project economics.
Track record of leadership, including building and leading high-performing teams.
Analytical mindset for conducting market analysis, assessing project feasibility, and identifying strategic opportunities.
Deep understanding of the renewable energy industry, encompassing market trends, policy landscape, and emerging technologies.
Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, JD) preferred.
Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, manage multiple projects concurrently, and willingness to travel as required.
Ability to utilize Excel spreadsheets, create excel trackers, and be able to use Word and Powerpoint for reporting/presentations via teams or in person.
