Special Education Clerical Assistant

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Status: 48 Semester hours of college coursework OR an Associate's Degree OR passing scores on the WorkKeys assessment (Business Writing, Applied Math, Workplace Documents)

REPORTS TO:

Principal

Coordinator, Special Education Services

JOB GOAL:To assist the school IEP coordinators, special education teachers and psychometrists as needed.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strictly adhere to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, parent communications, and/or classroom activities.
  • Work with school IEP coordinator and psychometrist to carry out assessment activities by documenting information about learner strengths and needs:
    • Assist in the administration and scoring of diagnostic tests according to the specific test administration standards and requirements.
    • Assist with maintaining assessment records and tracking logs.
  • Utilize computers and other technology in a purposeful manner to facilitate learning and assessment activities.
  • Accurately and effectively perform routine support tasks including clerical duties such as filing papers, photocopying materials, maintaining class rolls, managing files, and maintaining tracking logs.
  • Establish a positive and supportive relationship with all school personnel.
  • Observe and record classroom academic and social behaviors of students.
  • Communicate with teachers and/or parents as to scheduling appropriate testing situations.
  • Attend IEP meetings and in-services as needed.
  • Assist in monitoring state assessments for students with disabilities.
  • Provide own transportation to and from job sites.
  • Collect and report relevant data about the performance and behavior of individual learners that supports the evaluation and planning process.
  • Uphold all applicable district, state, and federal policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Maintain and improve professional skills in order to contribute to the learning of all students.
  • Assist special education teachers with progress reports and other paperwork as needed.
  • Work with school personnel to schedule assessments.
  • Administer hearing and vision screenings.
  • Work with school personnel and parents to schedule appointments to resolve hearing and/or vision problems.
  • Take reasonable precautions to protect students and to safeguard all equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Participate as a member of a team, and interact constructively and respectfully with students, staff, parents and others.
  • Perform work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions, and new or emergency situations. Adjust to schedule, variety of activities and changes in teaching and/or testing locations.
  • Perform instructional duties with individual and/or groups of students on an as needed basis.
  • Abide by the standards established by the Talladega County Board of Education for professional and personal conduct of teacher.
  • Engage in other reasonable duties during the school day that are necessary to the safe and effective operation of the school when requested.

EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of School Support Personnel.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine (9) month – 7 ½ hour work day

Salary according to proper placement on current salary schedule.

WORK HOURS:Reporting time to school and dismissal will be set by the supervisor within the 7 ½ hour work day.
