JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary purpose:

The Manager of Enterprise Risk & Insurance job responsibilities include supporting the purchase of insurance programs, management of claims and, preparing loss analyses and budgets, identifying risk exposures, recommending solutions and planning risk management processes. The Manger will also manage the company’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program, assisting with the quantification of risks affecting the business, subsequent mitigation activities, business continuation planning, and procuring insurance and other mitigative products commensurate with the Tallgrass’ evolving risk appetite. They will report to the Director of Risk.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Examine the use of realistic and cost-effective opportunities to balance retention programs with commercial insurance. 
  • Prepare risk management and insurance budgets and allocate claim costs and premiums to departments and divisions. 
  • Provide for the establishment and maintenance of records including insurance policies, claim and loss experience.
  • Assist in due diligence on risk exposures and insurance for all acquisitions and new projects.
  • Assist in the review of major contracts, proposed facilities, and/or new program activities for loss and insurance implications. 
  • Secure and review insurance renewal information from the various managers and business divisions and assist with the renewal submission to Tallgrass’ broker.
  • Evaluate proposals as they are received, and recommendations formulated for executive review and consideration, as necessary.
  • Administer and coordinate all interested insurance companies in the event of a catastrophic loss.
  • Review all insurance policies for accuracy along with verifying that audits were conducted properly.
  • Establish productive and engaging working relationships within the department and inner company.
  • Ensure third-party contracts meet the minimum Tallgrass insurance requirements.
  • Implementation of the ERM framework through analytics such as risk analysis, interviews, workshops, aggregate survey results and risk ratings.
  • Develop the methodology and tactical process for gathering and tracking mitigation plans as it relates to insurance and ERM.
  • Review and approve all Tallgrass counterparty insurance certificates that are not reviewed by ISNetworld; and prudently inform the exception management process for deviations.
  • Work closely with and support Internal Audit and Compliance activities.
  • Manage all Tallgrass corporate insurance programs including but not limited to: Workers Compensation, General Liability, Excess Liability, Auto, Property, Business Interruption, Pollution, D&O, Cyber, Employment Practices Liability, Builders Risk, etc.
  • Review all Incident Reports as part of the overall management of Tallgrass and Joint Venture insurance programs.
  • Manage all insurable claims as required.
  • Maintain any/all compliance, documentation, and reporting for insurance or ERM policies.
  • Develop and implement the Company’s written and electronic Risk Management programs for policyholders and updates as required.
  • Review various publications, websites, and other resources routinely to promote current departmental education on risk management related issues.
  • Actively participate on committees related to Risk Management.
  • Develop and implement policies and standards to support various risk management initiatives.
  • Develop and administer risk management programs.
  • Support various risk assessments across business areas.
  • Promote organization-wide understanding about risks and risk management strategies.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 7 years direct work experience in risk management, or a similar role may be considered as a substitute for a bachelor’s degree.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • 7 years of industry or similar work experience.
  • Extensive energy industry experience with emphasis in understanding commercial and non-commercial risk and managing risk exposure; minimum 7 years of experience.
  • Sound understanding of commercial and non-commercial energy activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial and non-commercial contracts.
  • In-depth knowledge of policy coverage and exclusions.
  • Working knowledge of contract law to analyze service agreements.
  • Claim management supervision.
  • Experience in project management process and activities.
  • Knowledge about legal issues around organization liability and insurance trends.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

  • Ability to work with multiple people and divisions within the Company.
  • Educational and work history commensurate with the position.
  • Ability to do loss analysis.
  • Presentation skills for management and board presentations.
  • Possess good customer service skills including the ability to work across company/organizational lines.

  • Skilled team manager and ability to communicate with engineers, operators, commercial reps and accountants.
  • Ability to recognize and understand the details but manage the “Big Picture.”
  • Superior quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Able to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Understanding of financial operations and basic risk management is essential to the success of a person in this role.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong strategic and integrative thinking skills, as well as good organizational and communication skills to independently drive risk management agenda across various lines of business at Tallgrass.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.
