Tandym Group is Hiring an Employment Coordinator Near New York, NY

A social services organization in Long Island is looking to fill an immediate need with the addition of a new Employment Development Coordinator,
About the Opportunity:

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Assignment length: 4 months
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Hours: 9am to 5pm or 8am to 4pm (1-hour paid lunch)

Responsibilities:The Employment Development Coordinator will:

  • Engage program participants by maintaining regular contact to monitor progress with employment search.
  • Request Employment Logs as necessary from program participants.
  • Maintain knowledge of application process through various employment agencies, unions, and various Human Resource Departments.
  • Maintain knowledge of vocational and training programs in the community.
  • Develop bank of employers and/or available job opportunities for qualified Veterans/Veteran family members with large, medium and small business in all industries.
  • Conduct meetings in the field regularly to build and maintain relationships with employers and providers for future contact.
  • Coordinate services with HVRP and Vocational Rehabilitation through the VA, Vets Build, and other employment programs to assist Veterans obtain skills and jobs.
  • Meet with program participants to assess employment needs and barriers, provide career counseling, and interview skills.
  • Collectively work and with communicate effectively with other members of the SSVF service team to rapidly address employment issues.
  • Create workshops for program participants that aid in employment preparation (i.e.: resume writing, interview skills, job search, etc.)
  • Assist with resume and cover letter development and revisions.
  • Assist in introduction of program participant to prospective employer, and any coordination or scheduling of interviews, as necessary.
  • Follow up with job leads and contacts, as appropriate, for program participants.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and maintenance of participant records in HMIS.
  • Participate in supervision, attend required staff meetings and trainings, and contribute to team-based collaborative planning.
  • Attend job fairs, networking opportunities and relevant community events.
  • Participate in appropriate community outreach collaborations and activities.
  • Track, monitor, and report employment placement rates for all participant families on a monthly basis.
  • Performs other duties related to the program as defined by the Regional Director.

Qualifications:

  • BA in human services, HR, or related field and/or one year experience in employment services, human services or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with at risk populations and Veterans highly desirable.
  • Proficient when working with Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Experience with electronic database systems (such as HMIS) is preferred.
  • A strong knowledge of employment resources and programs for the Veteran Community (i.e. NYS Department of Labor, Suffolk County Department of Labor).
  • Ability to network, build relations and negotiate with business owners and HR professionals, career training companies and other recruitment entities.
  • The ability to work with people from all walks in life, with commitment to deliver opportunities of employment stability.
  • Out of the box, new and creative ways in assisting program clients.
  • Solid organizational skills/strong communication, listening and writing skills required.
  • Exceptional presentation skills.
  • Willingness to attend occasional events outside of normal business hours, including Veterans Day Parade and networking events.
  • High energy level to complete assigned work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team.
  • Veteran or member of Veteran family is a plus.
  • Must have a valid NYS Driver's License.
