Tarlton Corporation is Hiring a Superintendent (Special Projects) Near St Louis, MO

Tarlton is a closely held, client-driven corporation employing an average of 300 people. Our organizational structure is relatively flat so clients and personnel can benefit from continual access to our executives, who take an active role in all Tarlton operations.

Our range of preconstruction and construction services in the commercial, institutional, industrial, life sciences, healthcare and concrete markets is extensive. Tarlton works on projects diverse in scope and size, in both renovation and new construction.

Our philosophy is simple: Take care of the client first and treat others as we would like to be treated. No project is too large or too small if it is work a client wants completed.

MAJOR GOALS AND PURPOSE

This position is part of Tarlton’s growing Special Projects Group, which provides construction services under master service agreements and other similar contract arrangements for long term clients.

Manage the daily operations of construction projects, including oversight of company resources and subcontractors, to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with project documents, construction budget, schedule demands, and that the delivery and quality of work is performed safely, while maximizing productivity and profitability.

ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES

  • Comply and enforce Tarlton Safety Program, including submission of the required safety reports, in a timely fashion.
  • Will be onsite face of Tarlton with assigned client(s).
  • Coordinate and interface with clients. Maintain positive relationships with Clients.
  • Oversee jobsite logistics, organization, equipment, materials and subcontractors.
  • Become familiar with subcontractors’ scope of work in order to coordinate, direct, and monitor the activities of subcontractors to ensure work is in compliance with project documents. Take proactive role in submittal process.
  • Work collaboratively with project team to update the three week look-ahead schedule in order to plan future construction activities proactively.
  • Develop Method of Procedures (MOPs) for critical work activities with input from key subcontractor personnel and communicate plan to the Owner for approval.
  • Oversee MOP tasks to ensure work is being performed as planned.
  • Enforce QA/QC and project quality program.
  • Become familiar with Owner technical publications, general design considerations, and acceptance testing documents and verify that specialty subcontractors are meeting necessary requirements.
  • Assist with start-up and commissioning of specialized equipment and maintain appropriate documentation throughout this process.
  • Submit completed daily reports, weekly timesheets, etc., and other paperwork as required.
  • Collaborate with team on subcontract language and budgets.
  • Coordinate manpower utilization with the Manager of Field Operations.
  • Coordinate with building inspections and activities having jurisdiction to receive required approvals timely.
  • Coordinate and expedite the delivery of materials and equipment for timely on-site utilization/installation to control field costs and maximize project profitability.
  • Manage, motivate, and coach Tarlton field forces in an effort to maximize productivity and profitability. Provide feedback as needed to improve performance.
  • Identify new/additional opportunities with client(s) and perform business development functions.

PREREQUISITES (i.e., Education, Experience)

  • Minimum five years of experience managing projects. Industrial, Laboratory, Pharmaceutical, and/or Healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Ability to manage varying project types and scopes from interior renovations to exterior civil work to industrial.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Must be adept at coordinating projects within existing and active facilities.
  • Knowledge of building construction, means and methods, scheduling and cost control procedures, general contract, general conditions, subcontract documents, drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment and systems, and a willingness to expand upon this knowledge with specialized electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule.
  • Excellent customer service skills & professionalism.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Current OSHA 30 and First Aid Certifications.
  • Competent person
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, Pro Core and Employee Portal Time.
  • Current knowledge of trade rules and jurisdiction with respect to pay rates.
