Senior Cost Accountant

Our client, a leading global biotech company, is seeking a senior cost accountant to join their growing finance team. This position is based in Philadelphia with a hybrid work schedule. They specialize in preclinical research, clinical development, translational sciences, and both autologous and allogeneic manufacturing within the cancer treatments.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

We are seeking a dynamic accounting professional with expertise in general ledger and cost accounting to enhance our corporate finance function. This role, reporting to the US Financial Controller, is crucial for accurate month-end accounting, internal control compliance, and internal reporting for general ledger and cost/inventory accounting functions. Key responsibilities include preparing journal entries for the balance sheet and P&L, account reconciliations, determining monthly inventory movements and COGS, collaborating with manufacturing and FP&A teams for standard cost calculations, and participating in departmental and cross-functional projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure the integrity of accounting information by preparing, recording, verifying, and entering transactions and account reconciliations.
• Reconcile inventory sub-ledgers to the balance sheet.
• Develop monthly COGS, other COGS, and inventory-related journal entries, including the development of standard costs for products at various inventory stages.
• Prepare and record entries for assets, liabilities, revenue, expenses, and COGS by compiling and analyzing account information.
• Ensure timely completion of month-end tasks and reconciliations.
• Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual closes and assist with audit inquiries.
• Identify and recommend process improvements to meet department close expectation goals.
• Perform SOX internal controls for period-end, inventory, costing, and COGS.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• 5 years of accounting experience, including industry experience.
• Proficiency in cost accounting and inventory management.

Desirable:

• Experience in biotech, life sciences or other manufacturing industries with commercial (standard costing) product accounting.
• Proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple teams within the organization.
