As Sr. Manager of Quality and Food Safety , you will lead the quality function for TDB Bakery, LLC. This role reports to the CEO but will work closely with the entire operations, product development, and consumer service teams.

Who we are:

TDP Bakery is an established company that manufactures and self-distributes to thousands of locations nightly. This formerly small family business has expanded rapidly over the past five years but still maintains the benefits of a close-knit culture and entrepreneurial spirit. Our combined bakeries manufacture millions of fresh bakery items every week, and our distribution teams drive enough miles each day to circle the earth to ensure that our consumers can enjoy something truly fresh.

Primary Responsibilities

  • The Sr. Manager of Quality and Food Safety will have full oversight of the quality system at TDP and will ensure that we are compliant with regulatory requirements, customer requirements, and our own internal standards for quality and food safety.
  • Directs, develops, and implements the quality function; oversees continuous improvement of our Quality Management (QMS) processes, training, and adherence using a Safe Quality Food (SQF) scheme.
  • Establishes and leads process of end-to-end risk assessment; prioritizes opportunities and ensures that adequate mitigation plans are in place; updates quality systems to ensure that ongoing management is sufficient.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships across bakeries, distribution, and internal functional partners; leverages those relationships to ensure that they understand and participate in programs to guarantee a consistent, safe, and wholesome product and an excellent consumer experience.
  • Creates balanced scorecard of metrics to measure, analyze, and monitor quality/food safety performance; establishes appropriate integration of reviews/responses from such measures in regular business process reviews.
  • Leads, develops, empowers, and supports team of FSQA Supervisors across the 5 operating sites to ensure that programs are implemented and followed.
  • Leads the company’s efforts to comply with FSMA, SQF, FDA, and State and Local Regulations: HACCP, PC, Food Defense, Food Fraud, etc.

QC:

  • Ensures, where appropriate, that correct chemical and physical analysis is in place for key product performance and food safety attributes.

  • Confirms that appropriate testing, methods, and frequency are in place to guarantee that product is safe and wholesome (chemically/biologically/statistically).

QA:

  • Ensures that best practices and policies related to GMP’s are established, trained, and followed throughout the Quality Management System.
  • Develops capabilities and understanding across functional teams to define, measure, and adhere to product quality targets (e.g., weight, size, appearance, taste).
  • Aligns with leadership team to ensure common understanding and shared accountability.
  • Stays abreast of regulatory and industry trends to proactively manage risk, develop team, and anticipate/address potential issues that may arise.
  • Manages corrective action process and leads plans to drive resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for establishing/leading appropriate level of internal/external audits to promote compliance and continuous improvement.

Sanitation:

  • Coordinates with bakeries for transparency to needs and scheduling.
  • Ensures that master sanitation plans are clearly defined and adequate (based on risk assessment and scientific validation) to confirm environmental and product contact areas as fit for use.
  • Ensures that workforce is adequately trained to understand both the “why” and the “how” to clean and sanitize in ways that will reduce risk and prevent cross- contamination. Establishes SOP’s accordingly.
  • Drives design improvement in environment and equipment to improve ease of cleaning and reduce potential for contamination.

Projects and Other Responsibilities:

  • Leads and/or participates in implementation of new processes/practices.
  • Partners closely with Product Development to ensure understanding and alignment on specifications (product development responsibility) and confirm that appropriate action steps (role responsibilities) are in place.
  • Partners with Executive Leadership in prioritizing overall resources and efforts.
  • Partners across functions to investigate consumer complaints and drive timely resolution, appropriate communication, and corrective action.
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing the quality assurance budget and tracking performance against it.
  • Compiles and distributes appropriate product documentation.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.
  • Travels as needed to support other bakeries or supplier audits (20% or less).

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Leader with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to partner with all organizational levels, while still maintaining the ability to roll up their sleeves and “act alone” in a young and rapidly growing company.
  • Appropriately analytical, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Results-oriented, organized, and able to move between projects and “drumbeat” adherence activities to ensure that business needs are met in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
  • Creative problem-solver, with the ability to collaboratively resolve difficult conflicts as they arise.
  • BS/BA in biology, chemistry, animal science, food science, statistics, or similar applied field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in quality within consumer products (CPG) required.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge:

  • SQF and FSMA/PCQI certifications strongly preferred.
  • Audit experience with regulatory bodies (FDA/USDA), customers (e.g., Costco), and third-parties (SQF, AIB).
  • Command of statistics and statistical process control tools.
  • Experience auditing others (supplier, contract manufacturer).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong project management skills.
