Position Summary: The New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) is the largest school system in the nation, with nearly 1 million students, approximately 135,000 employees (including almost 80,000 teachers). The Division of Instructional and Information Technology (DIIT) is responsible for the overall technology for the NYCPS. DIIT maintains a blend of central, schools, and public-facing web applications and databases, with more than 1 million devices for students, faculty, and administrative staff. NYCPS’s infrastructure team ensures that all DIIT managed locations have the critical resources and support needed to provide the best possible services to the public.
The Infrastructure Program Coordinator is a support role reporting into the office of the NYCPS’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This infrastructure role requires excellent communication skills, creativity, strong technical background, and familiarity with traditional and emerging technologies and practices. The activities of this role will be split between day-to-day operations and working on new and existing infrastructure projects. The candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, and interact effectively with IT, Security, and Business leaders, as well as school support staff.
The Infrastructure Program Coordinator will support a range of infrastructure projects dedicated to developing and managing internal policies, procedures, and processes related to best practices. The Infrastructure Program Coordinator will perform research and policy analyses related to data and analytics and support the development of learning communities to communicate and share best practices. Performs related work.
Reports To: Chief Technology Officer, DIIT
Direct Reports: N/A
Key Relationships: Works collaboratively with other DIIT units and other NYCPS departments. Acts as the point of contact for School Principals, Students, Schools Technical Staff, and/or School Administration.
Responsibilities
  • Provide consultative services to schools and other DIIT divisions as needed by supporting internet, network, and devices or other infrastructure-related needs.
  • Assist with technical relationships with strategic partners.
  • Assist with analysis and assessment of school needs around internet bandwidth, network, and devices/computer hardware.
  • Assist DIIT Infrastructure team(s) with their daily operations.
  • Assist in developing and managing internal policies, procedures, and processes related to infrastructure best practices.
  • Assist with providing input to project management processes and standard operating procedures and related documentation (e.g., system life-cycle support plans, concept of operations, and training materials).
  • Assist with testing implementation and support.
Qualification RequirementsMinimum
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.
Plus In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described in "1" above
Preferred
  • BS, BA, MA, or MBA degree preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Understanding of or willing to learn network security techniques, and network scanning.
  • Excellent end user support skills.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
Salary: $69,844 - $94,279
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
