Team Georgia Careers is Hiring a District 3: District Roadside Enhancement Coord Assist/Transportation Specialist 1 PG K TRP050 Near Thomaston, GA

JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision, provides entry level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental and traffic.

 

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under general supervision, assists the District Roadside Enhancement Coordinator in the implementation of grassing and herbicide operations in multiple counties within the state. Assists in the training of roadside enhancement crews and in the inspection of enhancement activities. Maintains an inventory of chemicals used in enhancement operations, as well as all associated records. Assists supervisor with implementation of the district's Wildflower and Adopt-A-Highway programs. Completes various reports as instructed by supervisor.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.

 

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

·Bachelor's degree in a related field

·OR Associate's degree in a related field

·OR One year of experience at position equivalent.

 

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·Possession of or the ability to obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License with Category 27 (Right of Way) within six (6) months of employment.

·Ability to read, comprehend, and enforce various contracts such as mowing and herbicide applications.

·Knowledge/experience with adopt-a-highway program and landscaping.

·Knowledge/experience of the IRVM Herbicide Manual, Departments Traffic Control Manual and the Mowing Standards.

·Experience managing inventories and equipment, and scheduling work assignments

·Experience working cooperatively with others and handle complaints while projecting a professional image of oneself and the Department, displaying high work standards to other departmental personnel and the general public

·Experience managing work activities without direct supervision, working independently, and being self-motivated

·Experience teaching others about workplace safety (including hazardous materials handling) and roadside enhancement methods and procedures.

·Experience in reading and comprehending information obtained in contracts, plans, drawings, specifications and technical manuals

·Experience writing correspondences to contractors, community leaders, and departmental personnel and update and maintain diaries on a daily basis

·Proficiency in basic math (e.g., solving for unknown quantities in mixture ratios)

·Experience in using selected rules, principles, relationships, and existing information to determine the best solution to problems

·Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, lift moderately heavy objects, and walk on different types of terrain and slopes to inspect enhancement activities

·Experience with plans, comprehending drawings, pictures, and numbers quickly and accurately

 

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·Knowledge of equipment used in roadside enhancement activities and current grassing and herbicide procedures

·Experience in writing and preparing speeches and/or presentations to various groups of people

·A general understanding of the organizational structure of the Department and the working relationship between roadside enhancement and social and civic clubs

Good Employment Standing:

In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing. Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
