Team Georgia Careers is Hiring a District 3: District Roadside Enhancement Coord/Transportation Specialist 1 PG K TRP050 Near Thomaston, GA

Job Summary: Under supervision, provides entry level professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental and traffic.

 

Job Specific Duties: Under general supervision directs the operation of grassing and herbicide crews in multiple counties within the state. Determines roadside locations to be landscaped and develops programs to maintain and beautify the highway rights of way. Reads and interprets plans for assigned projects. Supervises fencing repairs, supervises grassing and fertilizing program. Provides information and guidance to various civic roadside enhancement organizations.Ensures employee compliance with department rules, regulations and safety procedures. Provides feedback to district maintenance engineer on project status and requests assistance as necessary when unusual problems are encountered.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications

 

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

·Bachelor's degree in a related field

·OR Associate's degree in a related field

·OR One year of experience at position equivalent.

 

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·Experience and working knowledge of inspecting enhancement activities and maintaining records associated with enhancement activities.

·Experience in the reading comprehension of information contained in contracts, plans, drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.

·Possession of or the ability to obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License within six (6) months of employment.

·Ability to administer and inspect roadway service contracts.

·Ability to teach others about workplace safety (including hazardous materials handling) and roadside enhancement methods and procedures.

·Ability to visualize and interpret landscaping and construction plans, comprehend drawings, pictures, and numbers.

·Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, lift moderately heavy objects, and walk on different types of terrain and slopes to inspect enhancement activities

·Ability to manage inventories and equipment, and to schedule work assignments.

·Possess effective leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide others toward accomplishment of office/department goals.

·Committed to providing quality customer service.

·Demonstrated competencies in using selected rules, principles, relationships, and existing information to determine the best solution to problems.

·Ability to write correspondences to contractors, community leaders, and departmental personnel and update and maintain diaries on a daily basis.

·Ability to receive and interpret verbal instructions.

·Demonstrated competencies in writing and preparing speeches and/or presentations to various groups of people.

·Proficiency in basic math (e.g., solving for unknown quantities in mixture ratios).

·Ability to make independent decisions.

·Ability to work cooperatively with others and handle complaints while projecting a professional image of oneself and the Department.

·Displays high work standards to other departmental personnel and the general public.

·Demonstrated competencies in managing work activities without direct supervision, working independently, and being self-motivated.

·Ability to be on call outside normal working hours.

·Assist District personnel during emergency situations.

 

AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·Demonstrated ability to visualize and create beautification projects such as the use of wildflowers and/or small scale or permitted landscaping projects.

·Possess a general understanding of the organizational structure of the Department and the working relationship between roadside enhancement and social and civic clubs.

·Ability to adapt work hours to fulfill work assignments, and change work assignments at notice.

·Knowledge of basic computer skills.

·Knowledge of equipment used in roadside enhancement activities and current grassing and herbicide procedures.

·Demonstrated competencies in working well with others to resolve differences.

·Extensive knowledge and management of material inventory and inventory disbursement.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL GDOT JOBS

Good Employment Standing:

In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing. Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
