Overview:

Agriculture is a critical industry that provides food and other essential products to people around the world.

However, this industry is not immune to the risks and challenges that come with operating in any sector, including natural disasters, crime, and other emergencies.

This is where law enforcement and emergency management play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of the agricultural industry.

 

Position Description:

As an Emergency Management Planner, your primary responsibility is to develop, implement, and refine emergency response plans to effectively mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from various emergencies and disasters that affect the agriculture sector. You will collaborate with stakeholders, government agencies, community organizations, and emergency response teams to ensure comprehensive preparedness and efficient coordination during crises.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1.Plan Development:

·Develop comprehensive emergency management response plans tailored to agricultural events (natural disasters, animal diseases, terrorist threats, etc.)

·Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential hazards and prioritize preparedness efforts.

 

2.Coordination and Collaboration:

·Collaborate with government agencies, community organizations, law enforcement, and the agriculture industry to ensure alignment of emergency plans and resources.

·Facilitate tabletop exercises, drills, and simulations to test emergency response capabilities and identify areas for improvement.

 

3.Resource Management:

·Establish protocols for resource allocation and distribution during emergencies.

 

4.Education and Awareness:

·Develop and implement public awareness campaigns on emergency preparedness and response strategies for agricultural events.

·Coordinate outreach programs to engage farmers and agriculture industry partners in emergency planning efforts.

 

5.Continuous Improvement:

·Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of emergency plans through after-action reviews and lessons learned.

·Update plans based on changing threats, regulations, and best practices in emergency management.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

·Bachelor’s degree in emergency management or a related field.

·Proven experience in emergency management, disaster response, or related fields.

·Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks and develop strategic plans.

·Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building partnerships and engaging stakeholders.

·Proficiency in emergency management software and data analysis tools.

·Understanding of federal, state, and local emergency management regulations and protocols.

·Understanding of National Incident Management System and Incident Command System.

·Ability to travel overnight, statewide, and regionally as dictated by the business needs of the agency.

·Possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·Certified Emergency Manager (CEM)

·Demonstrated leadership abilities in coordinating large-scale emergency operations.

 

The selected candidate will be required to pass a background investigation as a condition of employment. Items that may be examined in a background check include but are not limited to credit records, criminal records, education records, past employers, military records, state licensing/certification records, and driving records.

High school diploma/GED and five (5) years of experience in emergency management, which includes two years of experience as a lead worker, team lead, or supervisory role; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Emergency Mgt Spec 1 (PSP071) or position equivalent.
