Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE)- Office of Charter Schools Commission is recruiting for an experienced Senior Director, Office of Charter School Compliance. Under limited supervision, directs, plans, and oversees a diverse range of support, operational, and programmatic activities for the Office of Charter School Compliance. This position will recommend and implement policies and procedures with high-level decision-making capabilities. Also provide strategic leadership to subordinate managers and oversees the operating budget for multiple programs. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Description of Duties

  • Serve as a charter school subject matter expert, including preparing charter school guidelines to be approved by the State Board of Education.
  • Develop and distribute charter school petition information to inquiring parties, including providing technical assistance and publishing documents and information for charter school stakeholders, including petitioners and local school systems.
  • Oversee probation and termination proceedings for charter schools.
  • Review, evaluate, and otherwise process local charter school petitions in coordination with the Charter Advisory Committee, including but not limited to reviewing charter petitions for completion and legal sufficiency, coordinating interviews, and presenting recommendations to the State Board of Education.
  • Aid in the administration of state or federal charter school implementation grants.
  • Oversee and manage all contracts associated with the Office of Charter School Compliance functions, including identifying vendors, developing the scope of service content, and reviewing/analyzing deliverables.
  • Compile and manage data for charter school reports as required by law or otherwise required to implement the legal obligations of the Office of Charter School Compliance.
  • Coordinate with local charter authorizers to monitor and support local charter schools, including establishing and maintaining a charter school performance framework.
  • Provide a Performance Framework for local charter authorizers.
  •  Provide the annual evaluation authorizers, provide performance ratings, and associated technical assistance

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, have experience in the following:

  •  Experience working within an organization focused on educational accountability and/or academic achievement
  • Demonstrated experience in education policy and with charter school initiatives
  • Thorough understanding of P-20 education reform efforts, especially those of Georgia
  • Experience working in the areas of charter school oversight/authorization, especially charter schools in Georgia
  • Prior management or oversight of a government agency's state and federal education grants
  • Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies that govern the authorization and requirements of charter schools in Georgia

****This is a hybrid position based in Downtown Atlanta*****

Bachelor's degree in operations management, business administration, or a related field which includes seven (7) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or ten (10) years of related professional experience which includes seven (7) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or seven (7) years of experience required at the lower , Business Ops (GSM014) or position equivalent.Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year..
