Team Red Dog is Hiring a Director of PMO Near Seattle, WA

Our client, a world-class organization, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director of the Project Management Office (PMO). This role offers the opportunity to strategically manage the project portfolio of major projects, streamline technical change initiatives, and work with a diverse internal and external resource pool. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategic Planning and Project Portfolio Management:

  • Align the PMO's activities with the overall organizational strategy.
  • Understand business objectives, identify project portfolios supporting those objectives, and create a roadmap for project execution.
  • Oversee the selection, prioritization, and management of the organization's project portfolio.
  • Assess project proposals, evaluate feasibility and potential benefits, and allocate resources effectively across multiple projects.

Governance, Standards, and Resource Management:

  • Establish project management governance processes and standards to ensure consistency and efficiency in project execution.
  • Define project management methodologies, establish project-related policies, and monitor adherence to these standards.
  • Manage the allocation and optimization of resources across projects.
  • Assess resource availability, skill sets, and capacity, making informed decisions on resource allocation to ensure projects are appropriately staffed.

Performance Monitoring, Reporting, and Risk Management:

  • Track project progress, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and provide regular reports to stakeholders.
  • Analyze project data, identify trends, and communicate project status, risks, and issues to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement risk management processes and frameworks to identify, assess, and mitigate project risks.
  • Establish risk assessment methodologies, conduct risk analyses, and recommend risk mitigation strategies to project teams.

Stakeholder Management and Continuous Improvement:

  • Engage with project stakeholders, including executives, sponsors, and team members, to ensure their needs and expectations are understood and addressed.
  • Facilitate collaboration among different project teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the PMO and across projects.
  • Evaluate project outcomes, identify areas for improvement, and implement lessons learned to enhance project management practices and increase organizational effectiveness.

Mentoring, Coaching, and Relationship Management:

  • Provide guidance, support, and mentoring to project managers and teams within the organization.
  • Share best practices, offer advice on project management techniques, and foster professional development to build a high-performing project management culture.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors, partners, and other stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and successful project outcomes.
  • Manage contracts, vendor relations, and leverage external expertise and resources when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computing Science, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
    • 9 years of experience managing project management direct reports on a variety of small to large projects, especially enterprise-wide projects involving multiple stakeholders and senior leaders.
    • Deep and broad knowledge of project management tools, methods, and approaches.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills with a high degree of comfort speaking with senior stakeholders.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills, technical documentation abilities, and high emotional intelligence.
    • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, adapt to new methods, learn quickly, and be an articulate, consensus-building, and persuasive leader.
  • Desired:
    • Supervisory and management experience with teams of more than 5 to 10.
    • Experience working within a state institution or serving a major academic or state institution.
    • Professional experience building and sustaining enterprise-wide PMOs.
