Underwriting Consultant

Remote in Richmond, VA

Techead has partnered with a national long-term care insurance provider to help them hire an experienced underwriter. As an underwriting consultant, you will be responsible for evaluating insurance applicants by correlating all aspects of risk to determine whether to accept, modify, or decline applications.

Responsibilities:

• Delivering on personal recommendations or supporting company initiatives by identifying project needs to include establishing guidelines, plans of action, and processes that allow for underwriting success.
• Partnering with other consultants and departments (such as Project Management and IT) on data collection and subsequent analysis, piloting and testing, creating and delivering new processes and/or guidelines, and more.
• Constantly touching base with the Management and Consultant teams to ensure alignment with top priorities.
• Identifying guideline or process changes, system solutions, and/or training needs from project work.
• Ensuring proper analysis and adherence to governance has taken place prior to the delivery of guidelines and philosophies.
• Coordinating external and internal audits and implementing any correlating needs.
• Balance protecting risk, while enabling underwriters to process with ease, keeping a constant eye on innovation and improving the consumer experience.
• Identifying efficient processes.

Requirements:

• Bachelor or Associate degree in a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience with extensive knowledge of UW website, manuals, reinsurance, underwriting philosophy, and underwriting systems.
• Ability to analyze metrics and translate into action plans.
• Demonstrated strong presentation and collaborating skills that influence and motivate others.
