Job Description

TPG is seeking a motivated and dependable Safety and Environmental Specialist to support an automotive testing company in Wittmann, AZ. This position will work in conjunction with the HSE Manager for their assigned business line and will be responsible for coordinating the safety strategy at the local level through the development, implementation and maintenance of all safety policies, procedures and processes for an assigned location.

You must keep safety as number one, show the ability and willingness to learn, and be detail oriented.

Technical Professionals Group provides validation, durability, mileage accumulation and quality testing services for vehicle and mechanized equipment projects and programs in the engineering, R&D, quality control and quality assurance sectors of the automotive industry.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the company-wide safety strategy and communicate and ensure adoption of the strategy at the local level
  • Develop and implement local safety-related policies, procedures and processes to prevent workplace accidents, injuries and hazards
  • Provide communication and facilitate safety-related training to employees regarding policies, procedures, processes and personal protective equipment
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs of the facility to identify any possible policy/procedure/process violations and implement immediate corrective action
  • Conduct inspections of safety related equipment and coordinate repairs/replacement as needed. Ensure adequate inventory of all safety related supplies
  • Respond to all safety hazards, near misses, accidents, and injuries by documenting the incident, conducting a thorough investigation, determining root cause analysis and implementing corrective action. Ensure company notification and reporting are followed for each safety event
  • Conduct review and analysis of accidents and injuries to determine trends and recommend changes to drive continuous improvement
  • Lead the local safety committee and attend company-wide safety meetings, as applicable
  • Conduct and/or coordinate internal and external audits of HSE programs
  • Maintain environmental permits in accordance with local, state and federal requirements for air, waste, hazardous materials, stormwater, wastewater, and other applicable licenses
  • Perform other work as required

Essential Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Occupational Safety and Health, or similar science discipline
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in HSE, preferably in the automotive field. A combination of directly relevant education, experience and training will be taken into consideration
  • Must have a proactive approach to safety and be willing to spend a significant amount of time in the facility versus at the desk
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative environment
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities and demanding deadlines
  • Must be detailed-oriented and able to effectively prioritize and organize workload, with efficient time management
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal written and presentation formats
  • Must possess the fundamental technical and administrative skills required to perform the job duties
  • Must be customer focused and quality driven
  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Prefer professional certification such as CHMM, ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.
  • Experience with enterprise-wide issue management software
  • Experience with quality management systems
  • Experience with auditing

Physical and Environmental Job Requirements

  • Standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, carrying and moving items of up to 50 lbs. and more
  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors.
  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to communicate to employees/visitors
  • Ability to perform essential job functions in an environment with varied noise levels

Important Items:

Safety Sensitive position requiring all persons assigned to activity be drug-free and able to successfully pass a drug screen.
