Position Overview
The Mechanical Design Engineer III (ME-III) is tasked with developing efficient machine designs tailored to job specifications, concept sketches, design standards, and customer requirements, emphasizing functionality, reliability, durability, safety, maintainability, flexibility, aesthetics, and cost.
Responsibilities
- Handle conceptual design, equipment specification, detailed design, assembly and fabrication oversight, testing, and installation.
- Communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders.
- Resolve operational problems and minimize delays or unexpected costs.
- Support sales team in pre-sales technical concepts and budgeting.
- Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations, including FEA.
- Manage internal and customer design reviews.
- Create and finalize designs, including accurate Bill of Materials (BOMs).
- Define equipment and parts from external suppliers.
- Conduct cost estimation.
- Oversee project workflow, ensuring timely delivery, quality, and budget adherence.
- Design customized mechanical solutions.
- Develop department best practices and standard operating procedures.
- Support system manufacture, build, and validation.
- Create customer documentation.
- Maintain accurate records and files.
- Commission customized products and systems onsite and at customer facilities.
- Lead project post-mortems and create recommendations reports.
- Provide pre-sales, design-in, and post-sales technical support to customers.
- Monitor vendor products and new technologies.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams.
Requirements
- 5 years in designing and developing industrial automation products and systems.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD for 3D solid model designs.
- Experience with engineering principles, part handling, robotic design, process flow, and operator ergonomics.
- Familiarity with safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with motion control technologies and mechanical drive train design.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%-50%, including international travel.
