Or should be clearableJob SummaryThe Database Engineer plans, designs, develops, and manages the organization's databases to ensure efficient data storage, access, and security. Collaborates with users to design, code, test, debug, and deploy databases that meet requirements and organizational needs. Writes queries, stored procedures, and functions for database development. Monitors databases' performance, scalability, and security and modifies procedures to optimize database designs. Evaluates existing database designs to determine necessary updates, performance tuning, and integration requirements. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of database technologies and solid coding and computer system skills. Key Responsibilities
Plan, design, develop, and manage CIT-hosted Oracle databases and IRMB-hosted SQL Databases.
Modernize and consolidate databases into a unified solution using Azure Cloud services.
Determine and design database solutions, ensuring seamless migration of current Oracle and SQL databases with minimal disruption.
Manage and administer all current and future databases to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability.
Implement best practices for backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
Perform comprehensive Database Administration, Database Development, and Database Design tasks.
Design efficient and scalable database schemas, create recurring data management jobs, and maintain databases during and after migration.
Develop robust data integration and synchronization solutions to connect databases with numerous data sources within NIH.
Design the new database environment for scalability, performance, and security, developing necessary database components and scripts.
Seamlessly integrate databases with modernized applications to support efficient data management and high availability.
Align database solutions with the organization's modernization goals.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Database Engineer or similar role.
Strong proficiency in Oracle and SQL databases.
Hands-on experience with Azure Cloud services for database management and migration.
Solid understanding of database administration, development, and design principles.
Expertise in writing and optimizing queries, stored procedures, and functions.
Experience in monitoring database performance, scalability, and security.
Ability to evaluate and update existing database designs for performance tuning and integration.
Knowledge of best practices for backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
