Working Shift: 3rd Shift (6 pm - 6:30 AM)
OT Expected: Yes - Time and One Half (Non-Exempt)
Position Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will be responsible for providing all geriatric nursing care, treatment, and services in a professional and prescribed manner. You will provide various nursing care for infirm geriatric residents while overseeing and training subordinate staff in specific resident care. You will observe and report the resident's behavior and physical condition including administering medical treatment and providing intervention according to the plan of care. Additionally, you will act as a lead with limited supervision on assignments. This position works under the supervision of an RN or physician; however, in the event, the LPN position is the charge nurse, the incumbent oversees the functions of all other LPNs on the unit, as well as the Certified Nursing Assistants.
Responsibilities:
Administer medication and perform treatments as ordered by the physician and within the scope of the license.
Ensure an adequate amount of supplies and medication are available.
Communicate with residents, families, and staff as necessary to ensure the resident receives appropriate care.
Supervise subordinate staff and assist as needed with direct resident care for the completion of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, personal hygiene, and mobility.
Conduct and participate in in-service training and staff development programs for regularly employed staff.
Attend and participate in staff meetings. May collect and analyze data for quality improvement and infection control programs.
Train/orient new employees.
Skills Required:
Knowledge of gerontological/geriatric nursing theory and practice.
Understanding of resident condition and changing medical/physical/psychological care needs.
Awareness of the effects of the aging process.
Practices and procedures of team nursing and implementing treatment plans for resident/patient care.
Pharmacology and medicine practices and procedures.
Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, and regulations governing general practical nursing practices and the security and control of medical supplies and medications.
Practical nursing methods and techniques.
Observing and reporting behavior and progress of residents/patients.
Assisting in the development and implementation of patient care plans within a team nursing concept.
Oral and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills.
Essential Requirements:
1 years in a Skilled Nursing / Long-term Care facility preferred
Must possess an active license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Arizona.
