JOB DESCRIPTION

Description

Reporting to the Facilities Engineering Manager, the Project Manager - Electrical is responsible for overseeing and managing the Capital expenditure projects of the Vancouver shipyard’s facilities, including buildings, equipment, and infrastructure. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that the shipyard's facilities are safe, efficient, and conducive to productivity.

As the successful candidate for this Project Manager role, you will oversee and coordinate our shipyard's electrical projects and our shipyard's electrical systems and infrastructure. This role involves the management of diverse electrical projects, ranging from minor to major upgrades. The ideal candidate will be the subject matter expert in electrical systems, demonstrating versatility and the capacity to support a broad spectrum of facility needs. While the primary focus is on electrical systems, the scope of responsibilities is not confined to this area. The Project Manager is expected to take on projects across various disciplines within the facility, demonstrating flexibility and a broad skill set in managing diverse operational tasks.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you’ll do

  • Acts as the go-to expert for all electrical systems within the shipyard, encompassing a thorough understanding of equipment and infrastructure needs.

  • Leads and deliver electrical projects of varying scales, ensuring meticulous planning, execution, and closure within budget and timeline expectations.

  • Ensures extensive understanding and thorough documentation of all electrical grid systems and equipment within the facility, positioning the electrical project manager as the subject matter expert in these areas.

  • Collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure project objectives are aligned with organizational goals and executed efficiently.

  • Develops and monitor key performance indicators to track project progress, quality, and adherence to defined specifications.

  • Provides strategic insights and recommendations for the enhancement of electrical operations within the facility.

  • Conducts risk assessments, devising and implementing strategies to preemptively address potential disruptions to project success.

  • Guides the team through complex problem-solving scenarios, ensuring alignment with the facility’s operational objectives and standards.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 4-6 years of combined experience in technical and project management experience of an industrial or heavy construction work environment.

  • Certified Project Management (PMP) is an asset.

  • 4-6 years managing electrical projects with a strong electrical background. Demonstrate experience in handling electrical systems or equipment.

  • 4-6 years of managerial experience, with at least 2 are in a production environment, preferably in a unionized environment.

  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

  • Proficient in directing and leading within a unionized work environment and working collaboratively with cross functioning teams.

  • Familiarity with shipyard industry work processes, equipment and practices is considered an asset.

  • Excellent conflict management and organizational skills.

  • Experience developing and managing an annual operating budget.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint and Outlook.

  • A commitment to continuous improvement, results oriented, with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, leading change with an inclusive and growth mindset.

  • Superior interpersonal skills, adept at engaging with both technical staff and executive leadership.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability, fostering a collaborative environment while promoting a culture of accountability and high performance.
