Tehama County Public Works is Hiring a Wastewater Operator Near Gerber, CA

About the District: Tehama County Sanitation District No. 1 Mineral (District) is owned and operated by Tehama County Department of Public Works. The District provides wastewater service to the rural unincorporated community of Mineral, CA, located approximately 40 miles northeast of Red Bluff, adjacent to Lassen Volcanic National Park. The District’s current service area boundary consists of approximately 85 acres (0.13 square miles). The District’s ultimate service area boundary, mentioned in the 1965 Feasibility Report completed by Clair A. Hill and Associates, is approximately 280 acres (0.4 square miles) and contains areas outside the District’s boundary, including Lassen Volcanic National Park Service Headquarters and the Caltrans Maintenance Station. The US Forest Service Campground at Battle Creek and adjacent church campground were not included in the ultimate boundary.

About the Position:
Under general direction performs semi-skilled, skilled, and complex work in the operation of all equipment in a wastewater treatment plant and collection system as assigned; perform the duties of Chief Plant Operator, exercising functional and technical supervision over other plant operations personnel as assigned; to perform related work as required.

Examples of Duties

  • Operates wastewater treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge, and effluent.
  • Monitors gauges, meters and control panels.
  • Observes variations in operating conditions.
  • Interprets meter and gauge readings, and test results to determine processing requirements and makes adjustments as necessary within prescribed plant operating procedures and criteria.

Ability to:

  • Perform all plant operations in a safe and efficient manner without direct supervision.
  • Operate generators, pumps, gauges, common hand power tools, shovels, wrenches, and detection equipment.

Education, Experience & Licenses

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma
  • Completion of specialized training in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and equipment plus additional college level coursework in chemistry, biology or a related science.
  • Two years of experience performing duties similar to those assigned to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II.

Licenses & Special Requirements:

  • Requires a valid California driver’s license.
  • Possession of an active Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate Grade III or higher issued by the State of California Water Resources Control Board.
