Tekscan, Inc., a global leader in the production of thin, flexible tactile sensors and systems, is seeking a talented Chemistry/Materials Science Technician to join our innovative team. Our sensors are crafted using a sophisticated screen-printing process that incorporates both off-the-shelf and custom-developed inks and coatings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ink Production and Manufacturing: Oversee the creation and compounding of specialized inks.
- Raw Materials Management: Manage the procurement and inventory of raw materials and commercial inks.
- Inventory Management and Forecasting: Maintain accurate inventory levels and predict future material needs.
- Experimentation: Conduct or coordinate experiments under the direct guidance of our Engineering staff.
This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in chemistry or materials science, particularly those with experience in screen-printing processes and ink formulation.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine and non-routine tests and analyses using appropriate technical equipment and instruments.
- Receive, collect, and process samples.
- Calculate, log, and report test results using a computer.
- Prepare and supervise experiments.
- Perform quality control and calibrate equipment as necessary.
- Write clear reports and document quality control, calibration, and experimental procedures. Effectively communicate findings to the engineering and production teams.
- Maintain equipment in proper working order and ensure a clean work area.
- Practice safe work habits, including compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in a scientific field is preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in a lab or printing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant computer programs.
- Basic understanding of technical protocols and procedures, with the ability to record and report data accurately.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, including the ability to perform mathematical calculations and use concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
- Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in experiments and data recording.
- Ability to write correspondence and reports effectively.
- Strong organizational skills, managing multiple tasks, maintaining inventory, and keeping the lab organized.
- Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as moving and lifting equipment and standing for long periods.
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with screen-printable inks and analytical chemistry equipment are desirable.
- Ability to collaborate with chemists, engineers, and other technicians to achieve project goals.
