Summary : Under regular supervision performs basic tasks and projects with lesser complexity. Relies on established guidelines and / or detailed direction for locating fiber optic cables and becomes familiar with the company's systems and applications.

Is responsible for the outside plant network in a given geographic boundary including metro and long haul fibers. External Essential Duties : Responsible for asset management processes deliveries and replenishes consumables.

Maintains tools test sets and electronic equipment including but not limited to : fiber optic RX / TX. equipment. Monitors / locates route and assists in executing restoration in the event of a service interruption proactively responds to potential problem areas in order to ensure integrity of the network.

Responsible for learning all of the systems and applications required to perform the job function adequately. Updates installation records enters appropriate detailed log information on trouble tickets for reference and provides reports to others on status updates and issues related to assignments.

Basic Qualifications : Minimum skills required to perform in this role. Education Requirements : High School Diploma / GED or 1 year of relevant job experience.

Relevant job experience is described as : Job experience in similar industry. Job experience with similar essential duties.

Physical Requirements : Sit climb balance stoop kneel crouch and crawl lift 50 lbs. Valid drivers license required works in all weather conditions.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience Education and Experience : 2 yrs. - Education Level : High School / GED. Field Of Study : Electronics or Telecommunications.

A combination of education and experience is acceptable : Yes Attention to detail with good organizational capabilities.

Ability to prioritize with good time management skills. Knowledge Skills or Abilities 0-2 years network monitoring installation or maintenance / repair.

Entry-level technician with experience and / or knowledge of at least one of the four major technician disciplines. Those technical disciplines are : Outside Plant Fiber locating OTDR Mass Fusion Splicing etc.

Have knowledge of locating fiber optic cable right-of-way and As-Builts. Must maintain site security and cleanliness. Must have PC skills and be well versed in Microsoft Windows and Office applications.

Must possess the ability to quickly learn corporate databases. On-call 24x7 on a rotational basis on stand-by call out dispatch and overtime are required as dictated by the business.

1-2 Years of Experience 1. Explain what the scope of the work / project is? - Looking for a field locating technician to work in the Herdon VA location.

This person must be familiar with / have experience with locating. They could have experience with residential locating locating fiber or locating for a gas or power company 2.

Is this new headcount or a backfill? - Backfill for a leave of absence 3. Who is the customer internal / external? - Supporting internally 4.

What is the size of the group this position will be supporting? - It is currently a four person group but this person will make five 5.

What is the technical environment? - They will need to be familiar with locating equipment receiver and transmitter - Basic computer skills Microsoft Office Suite 6.

Describe work environment / team culture? - This person will need to be self-motivated / have self-initiative. They will not go into an office to start their day and can start the day by going online to check their tickets and leaving their home to go immediately to their first location.

They will view their tickets travel to locations as needed and close their tickets when they get home accordingly. - They will need their own vehicle to travel to each location.

• Due to this they may have certain days or weeks with little communication with the team. They will often communicate through calls and texts but much of the role will be independent.
• The team does have weekly meetings on Monday where they review everyones workload and shift as needed to distribute work evenly.

7. Based on the job description what does a typical day look like? - On a daily basis the techs will receive a number of tickets a map and through various means they must locate fiber optics.

They will use a marker and / or paint to mark the fiber. They could be marking for construction of a new building where they are digging for construction etc.

They will also need to take a photo of each locate they complete and upload it to our software so they must have a camera phone.

Most of the technicians currently have an iPhone but anything similar will work! 8. What is the ramp up time / process for this role?

• For the first week they will ride with an internal technician so that we can get a feel for their experience level and they can start to learn the process / area they will be in.
• Depending on their experience level they could continue to ride with an internal tech / shadow a tech for 2 weeks 9. Good work ethic 3. Ideal Candidate background and how many years required? - A year of locating experience would be ideal but they may be considered if they have less for example 6 months of experience as well.

Is there a shift differential? - This role will be 40 hours / week with no overtime. Typical hours of 8am-5pm but we do allow techs to shift a little based on traffic as needed for example 7 : 30am-4 : 30pm.

No on call unless it is an absolute emergency. - The position will be 5 days per week 8 hours per day. - Mileage will be reimbursed based on IRS reimbursement rate They are not reimbursed from when they leave their house to their first location or from their last location to home.

They can only be reimbursed from their first location to the next / between all locations during the day. Benefits / Perks of the Position Section 1.

What is appealing about this position to a contractor? - Fiber optics are expanding everywhere so it is great experience and a good skill to have.

Fiber optic lines copper lines gas lines etc all need to be located so it is a constantly in demand role and a great field to get into.

Additionally there is some potential from them to convert to a FTE. 2. What is the likelihood that the position will convert to a permanent opportunity?

There is a chance depending on the internal employee that is currently out on leave. If converting what is the estimated FTE rate range for the position?

The salary would be approximately low to mid 50k with a yearly bonus and take home vehicle for role.
