Mechanical Design Engineer
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs drafting (working closely with the draftsman) and mechanical design of machine components with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Collaborates effectively with other engineers and designers in a project environment.
- Participates in new design and modification projects.
- Ensures the accuracy of machine documentation for manufacturing release, including Bills of Material, Part Drawings, Assembly Drawings, and Orientation Drawings.
- Communicates with manufacturing and assembly teams to resolve conflicts, review designs, and incorporate suggestions for improvement.
- Works with the Technical Publications Department to maintain accurate technical information in customer manuals.
- Manages engineering projects by supervising installations and resolving design issues.
- Collaborates with production to troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, diagnose and disposition nonconforming parts and assemblies, ensuring on-time shipments to customers.
- Supports cross-functional team initiatives such as new product launches and various technical and non-technical problem-solving endeavors.
- Attends all design review meetings.
- Establishes realistic time standards for production and cost control of products.
- Provides mechanical build assistance in the assembly department when needed.
- Assists in reviewing the design of new products with engineering personnel, making recommendations to facilitate manufacturing.
- Recommends appropriate materials for customer applications, as needed.
- Supports Project Engineers, Program Managers, and other staff with information pertaining to pricing strategies and/or risk analysis.
Education:
- B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Previous Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of engineering experience in an equipment/manufacturing environment.
- Some customer contact experience preferred.
- Equipment troubleshooting experience is a plus.
- Must have some experience with component design.
- Must have experience with Solidworks.
