Work Schedule: Schedule will vary based upon department needs. This is an on-site position. Essential duties of the role must be performed in-person, during prescribed work hours.
Position Summary & Essential Duties

The following duties and responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's), and physical requirements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. SUMMARY:
Under general supervision from the Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator is responsible for facilitating simulation activities in the Nursing Simulation Lab. This includes assisting faculty with supervision of students' skills performance, student evaluation, and other aspects of student learning in the lab setting.
Qualifications (Required and Preferred)

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS):
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Candidate must have a minimum of two of the last four years of nursing practice experience in area of teaching responsibility. Must meet accrediting body criteria to teach in Associate Degree Nursing Program

PREFERRED:
Master's degree in nursing and nursing education experience preferred.

CERTIFICATION OR LICENSES:
Registered Nurse with current Texas license with no stipulations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will:
  • Responsible for assisting faculty with skills competency testing;
  • Prepare supplies/equipment for skills demonstrations;
  • Assist faculty with setting up simulated lab experiences for students;
  • Assist students in remedial activities to enhance learning of psychomotor skills;
  • Maintain equipment and simulators;
  • Ensure the labs are kept clean and well ordered;
  • Cultivate healthy teacher-student relationships;
  • Engage students in active learning;
  • Supervise and evaluate student performance in simulated environments;
  • Demonstrate professional written and oral skills in communications with students;
  • Incorporate best practices;
  • Maintain accessibility to students for advisement and consultation;
  • Seek feedback to improve quality of teaching;
  • Maintains evidence of professional growth and development related to area of teaching.
  • Evidence a willingness to incorporate new concepts and theories to enhance professional growth;
  • Demonstrate innovative thinking to problem solve within the simulated setting;
  • Demonstrate respect and professionalism with supervisors, colleagues, and students;

Knowledge Skills and Abilities & Physical Demands

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of teaching and instruction for individuals and groups.
  • Knowledge of appropriate subject matter and the application of the subject matter for the discipline being taught.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies procedure, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operation for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA restrictions.
SKILLS:
  • Effective communication strategies, both verbal and written, in dealing with students and other involved parties.
ABILITIES:
  • ability to engage students in the learning process
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Primarily moderate activity is required with frequent standing, walking and occasional lifting and manipulation of objects up to 40 pounds or more with assistance.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is normally performed in a classroom or hospital setting. May be exposed to various types of gases, chemicals or pathogens.

HOURS REQUIRED PER WEEK:
Minimum of 10 hours per week, with a maximum of 19.5 hours per week.

TEMPLE COLLEGE BENEFITS
  • PAYROLL: Employees are paid by direct deposit through the last working day of the month. Wages for 16-week semesters are paid evenly over four months, and eight-week semesters are paid evenly over two months, with the first deposit occurring on the last working day of the first full month of the semester. Actual deposits are paid on the last working business day of the month. All benefit deductions are taken at that time.
  • RETIREMENT: Temple College is one of the few community colleges in the state of Texas to be permitted Federal Social Security deductions. Temple College is a Section 218 employer.
