Position Summary:

The Media, PA Store Manager is accountable for all aspects of the store and is the primary leader of the store and its staff. In addition to the overarching objective of achieving sales goals, the Store Manager is ultimately responsible for creating avenues of growth for the store and for managing day-to-day operations. The Store Manager ensures that all staff are provided with ongoing training and coaching to enhance sales and operations while also promoting and maintaining a positive work environment.

The Store Manager is the primary liaison between Ten Thousand Villages and the local community. The manager seeks out and develops networking opportunities in the community to educate about our efforts to put people and planet first, differentiate Ten Thousand Villages from other retailers, increase the store’s customer base and ensure that we have a presence in the community.

This position supports and contributes to the Ten Thousand Villages mission by:

This is a customer-facing and community-oriented position that directly connects Ten Thousand Villages artisans and products with the public to increase sales.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to achieve or exceed budgeted sales and metric goals.
  • Manage store operations and payroll, so that in conjunction with sales, the store is profitable.
  • Effectively communicate store metrics to the store team and motivate performance to these goals. Maintain awareness of store metrics including sales, conversation rate, and DPT.
  • Develop strategies to increase customer pool, expand store traffic and optimize profitability.
  • Seek out, develop and plan networking opportunities, community engagement and store events that will increase the store’s presence, traffic, customer base and profitability.
  • Determine and deploy strategies and plans for spending local grass-roots marketing budget.
  • Contribute to product selection decisions based on company guidelines.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations including, executing visual merchandising and marketing standards, maintaining appropriate inventory levels, communicating with various departments in the home office, and accurate financial reporting.
  • Hire, train and coach store staff, especially the Assistant Manager, so that they are qualified and ready for growth opportunities within the company; develop store team into ambassadors for the product and mission.
  • Develop and motivate staff to provide a unique shopping experience by engaging customers with excellent sales and customer service standards. Differentiate Ten Thousand Villages from other retailers by explaining the mission and telling product and artisan stories.
  • Maintain a presence on the sales floor that contributes to sales and to the growth of the sales staff by modeling the standards in the Ten Thousand Villages selling process.
  • Schedule the store team to ensure consistent coverage of the sales floor, taking into account weekly, monthly and annual traffic/sales history.
  • Plan and schedule store staff meetings.
  • Initiate changes to improve the business, e.g. revising opening hours to ensure the store can compete effectively in the local market.
  • Manage store assets and train and hold the team accountable on asset management system including open and close, bank deposit standards, and loss prevention.
  • Own the physical environment of the location and ensure the store remains clean and presentable at all times; order supplies as needed and resolve maintenance concerns.
  • Delegate and assist as needed with routine store tasks, including display maintenance, back office, receiving, pricing/stocking orders, and completing timely and appropriate floor moves.
  • Perform additional duties/responsibilities as requested which contribute to the position’s success and the mission.

Preferred Experience/Knowledge/Education/Skills/Abilities:

  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in retail management and/or sales
  • Self-motivated, outgoing, energetic and enjoys working with people
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Proven results through networking, off-site events, and presentations to drive traffic and sales
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to motivate and influence a team and achieve results through actions and example
  • Ability to execute multiple tasks and changing priorities while remaining aware of details
  • Confident in arithmetic and data entry skills, including the ability to understand a P&L, balance registers and complete bank deposit paperwork
  • Solid knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and the Internet
  • Capability and willingness to carry out all duties in a careful and responsible manner
