- Instruction: Facilitate the classroom instructional process: evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours. Ability to effectively apply a multi-method approach to enhance student understanding of materials, including demonstrations, lectures, hands-on activities, and experience at job sites, to provide the student with the knowledge needed to gain employment in the automotive industry. - (Essential)
- Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in the purchase of needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi. - (Essential)
- Professional Development: Remain current within the instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process. - (Essential)
- Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement; support student activities, including SkillsUSA, NTHS, graduation, and other events. - (Essential)
- Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College’s decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues and industry partners; maintain an active program advisory committee; work to meet and exceed COE benchmarks for student completion and placement as well as accreditation standards. - Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration, on and off campus. - (Essential)
- Minimum of Technical Diploma in the instructional area or equivalent higher education training with credentials in a related field. Associate degree preferred. A comparable combination of education and related experience may be considered
- Minimum of three (3) years of full-time work experience in the automotive mechanics field within the last five (5) years.
- Must possess all required ASE certifications and/or accreditations for the field or the ability to become certified within twelve (12) calendar months.
- Current ASE Master Technician Certification
- Experience with electric vehicle maintenance and repair is highly desired.
- Teaching experience
- Must possess a high degree of knowledge in all areas of the automotive mechanics field.
- Possess organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective instructor
- Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
- Strong customer service skills
- Computer skills, including general knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Knowledge of Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) policies and procedures
- Skill in managing deadlines and working in a team-oriented environment
