Job SummaryThe Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is accepting applications for the full-time Associate Instructor in Automotive Technology position at the Knoxville main campus. This position works 7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
POSITION SUMMARY: To provide quality instruction for student learning and maintain a positive classroom learning environment.
Job Duties
  • Instruction: Facilitate the classroom instructional process: evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours. Ability to effectively apply a multi-method approach to enhance student understanding of materials, including demonstrations, lectures, hands-on activities, and experience at job sites, to provide the student with the knowledge needed to gain employment in the automotive industry. - (Essential)
  • Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in the purchase of needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi. - (Essential)
  • Professional Development: Remain current within the instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process. - (Essential)
  • Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement; support student activities, including SkillsUSA, NTHS, graduation, and other events. - (Essential)
  • Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College’s decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues and industry partners; maintain an active program advisory committee; work to meet and exceed COE benchmarks for student completion and placement as well as accreditation standards. Cooperate with outside agencies; conduct visits to businesses and industry; establish and maintain good public relations with the school’s general public. - (Essential)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration, on and off campus. - (Essential)
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of Technical Diploma in the instructional area or equivalent higher education training with credentials in a related field. Associate degree preferred. A comparable combination of education and related experience may be considered
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time work experience in the automotive mechanics field within the last five (5) years.
  • Must possess all required ASE certifications and/or accreditations for the field or the ability to become certified within twelve (12) calendar months.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current ASE Master Technician Certification
  • Experience with electric vehicle maintenance and repair is highly desired.
  • Teaching experience
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Must possess a high degree of knowledge in all areas of the automotive mechanics field.
  • Possess organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective instructor
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Computer skills, including general knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) policies and procedures
  • Skill in managing deadlines and working in a team-oriented environment
SALARY: In accordance with Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines within the range of $50,421 - $60,171.
