Position: Community Legal Education Coordinator Position
Full Time Non-Exempt Position, Based in Tennessee. Reports to the Legal Services Manager. This is a
two-year position funded for June 2024-June 2026.

The Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) is a statewide, immigrant and refugee-led
collaboration. Our mission is to build power, amplify our voices, and organize communities to advocate for
our rights. Our vision is a stronger, more inclusive Tennessee where people of all nationalities, immigration
statuses, and racial identities can belong and thrive. TIRRC’s growing legal team engages in community
legal education, direct representation, and advocacy to protect the rights of immigrant community members
and support the power-building mission of the organization.

Position Description
TIRRC seeks a Community Legal Education Coordinator to help reach and support community members in
rural Tennessee with legal education, resources, and services. The responsibilities will include conducting
intakes and community legal education sessions, providing support to attorneys and licensed representatives
in immigration cases (mostly naturalization and deferred action), and planning legal clinics and workshops.
The community legal education coordinator may also participate in and provide legal support to TIRRC’s
organizing, policy advocacy, and power-building activities as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and coordinate legal information sessions, workshops, and interpreter participation, while
managing outreach and registration;
  • Develop legal education materials for sessions, workshops, and TIRRC’s resource desk in
collaboration with licensed legal staff;
  • Gather session outcome data and analyze participant feedback to enhance future sessions;
  • Cultivate and maintain partnerships for collaborative legal sessions and workshops within the
community;.
  • Address inquiries about TIRRC’s legal services from partners, community members, and
participants;
  • Document session data to identify emerging trends and community legal/resource needs;.
  • Provide support to attorneys and licensed representatives in immigration cases, including
managing client communications, collecting evidence, and preparing draft applications;
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with legal standards and ethics;
  • Collaborate with the organizing team to identify and address the most pressing legal education
needs of TIRRC’s members and constituents;
  • Other legal services support as needed;
  • All TIRRC staff are expected to participate in and help support certain organization-wide

training and events, such as Day on the Hill, staff retreat, the Membership Convention, and
other training as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:
Belief in TIRRC’s mission and experience with social justice;

  • Experience with immigration law and practice; previous immigration paralegal experience strongly
preferred;
  • Experience working with low-income immigrant communities preferred;
  • Experience with immigration software preferred;
  • Ability to be very organized, work on deadlines, and juggle multiple priorities;
  • Ability to work sensitively with clients who have diverse identities, cultures, and faith traditions;
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends;
  • Willingness to travel outside of the metropolitan Nashville area, including day and overnight trips;
  • Fluency in English required and fluency or working proficiency in another language spoken by TIRRC’s
constituencies preferred;
  • Must have reliable transportation.

SALARY AND BENEFITS PACKAGE:
Salary Range: $46,000-$51,000
Benefits: Full-time TIRRC employees are eligible to receive medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100%
of the medical employee premium covered by TIRRC, participate in a 401K retirement plan, and receive 24/7
access to an Employee Assistance Program. In addition, TIRRC provides paid leave including up to 15
vacation days, 13 paid holidays, and 3 weeks paid sick leave in an employee’s first year and 6 weeks of paid
parental leave.
