SUMMARY
Supervise, plan, direct and coordinate the activities required of the regional Operations team to maintain terminal tractors, trucks, trailers, and other equipment to deliver the highest levels of customer service in the most cost-effective manner while ensuring adherence to TICO standard operating procedures. Support the Terminal Manager in the management and coordination of all 24-7 Operations functions. Plays critical customer contact role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Professionally, efficiently, and cost-effectively maintain the operational readiness of Terminal fleet.
- Effectively delegate responsibilities to subordinates.
- Manage the Operations Supervisors to ensure the highest standards of service delivery.
- Promote teamwork among Operations, Maintenance, and administrative support personnel.
- Interpret and administer company policies and safety regulations.
- Adhere to all customer service guidelines.
- Requisition tires, fuel, and supplies as needed.
- Adhere to all company reporting requirements.
- Utilize Human Resource policies to effectively manage employees, and actively participate in staff recruitment.
- Investigate all incidents and accidents involving company property or persons.
- Proactively address opportunities and threats through the development of sound organizational plans.
- Primarily responsible for the hiring, training supervisors, and the management and development of Operations workers.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers, and other agencies. Investigate and resolve customer problems.
- Study schedules and estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments while minimizing the requirement for overtime.
- Prepare schedules for personnel and assign personnel to specific work activities.
- Monitor facility maintenance and address deficiencies to ensure compliance with state and federal standards.
- Act as the Terminal Manager in his or her absence.
- Analyze and resolve, or assist personnel in the resolution of work problems, and initiate plans to motivate workers to achieve established work goals.
- Work with other Company managers to coordinate/Schedule the over-the-road equipment operation to ensure the timely and efficient shuttling of equipment and part between locations.
- Work extended hours when deadlines must be met and be prepared to be on call” status 365 days/year.
- Maintain records of work hours, supplies utilized, and work performed, and prepare reports as needed, including completion of confirmed order.
- Rental Reports, and other required paperwork to be provided to the Terminal Manager.
- Develop or revise standard operational and working practices to maximize Terminal fleet utilization, efficiency, reduce costs, balancing customer demands with the cost of a capital-intensive fleet of equipment.
- Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, jacks, hoists, etc. to perform maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment when necessary to complete jobs and train subordinates.
- Train in the duties and responsibilities of the Terminal Manager.
- Comply with Company/Agency policy/procedures, maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment during the performance of job duties.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises the Operations supervisors and service technicians, and the OTR Driver. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
ADAPTABILITY
Operations Managers must be able to adapt to rapidly changing work conditions, adjusting work activities of those under supervision to meet changing demand for equipment/services. Must be able to work in rapidly changing, fast paced environments and be flexible about working conditions and working areas which contain petroleum products and heavy equipment. Must also be able to respond/react quickly to situations that can arise at any time of the day or night.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to comprehend P&L-related statements. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple unknown variables in non-standardized situations by assigning probabilities based upon experience as well as intuition. Ability to be exact or accurate in completion of work. Ability to problem solve and apply common-sense understanding to carry out potentially complicated instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must be able to cope and communicate with a variety of personalities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or at least 2-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CUSTOMER RELATIONS SKILLS
This position is a significant contact between the Company and its customers. Tact and communication skills are necessary to perform the position successfully. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personalized services is required. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Solomon software and Internet/Outlook).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current/valid driver’s license is a must and a clean driving record; TWIC Card preferred but not mandatory; personal hand tools; maintain all certifications required by OSHA and Company safety programs.
