Job Summary And QualificationsThe Director of Quality has responsibility and authority to plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Quality Resource Management, Medical Staff Services, Risk Management, and Infection Control functions. Responsible for selection, management and evaluation of personnel in the department and other departments as assigned as well as accountability for overall results of those functions.

  • Actively seeks to learn the department’s/hospital’s processes and participates in improving them to meet the hospital’s patient/customer focus, as evidenced by suggestions, reporting occurrences, team participation
  • Demonstrates good communication skills including written, verbal, nonverbal (body language), and interpersonal manners
  • Demonstrates awareness and application of all safety procedures while on duty
  • Demonstrates ability and willingness to plan and coordinate the work so as to accomplish required tasks accurately
  • Must possess ability to supervise, counsel, and work professionally with department personnel and peers. Ability to perform cognitive tasks

Position responsibilities: Essential educational/licensure, skills and experience:Valued but not required educational/licensure, skills and experience:
  • Provides strategic and technical direction to ensure all areas of responsibility are in compliance with QIO, ISDH, CMS, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory guidelines
  • Keeps appraised of changes in regulations as they relate to all areas of responsibility
  • Coordinates house wide Quality Management activities for reporting to the appropriate physician committees, Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees
  • Receives and reviews minutes of Medical Staff and hospital-wide Committees to gather information pertinent to Quality Management activities
  • Reviews data related to clinical care with the Clinical Monitoring Committee to set the committees agenda and identifies problems which require immediate action
  • Assists as a liaison for various committees and departments to help maintain communication between committees/departments monitoring activities
  • Assists Medical Staff with the establishment and maintenance of ongoing monitoring and evaluation activities
  • Maintains open communication with all other leaders, Administration, and Medical Staff and updates them on any concerns/issues within area of responsibility
  • Oversees the annual reappraisal of the Performance Improvement Plan and Patient Safety Plan to include a list or summary of relevant findings, actions required to either improve or assure the coordination and integration of Performance Improvement activities and evidence of the programs impact on improving clinical performance and patient care.
  • Functions as a Performance Improvement (PI) facilitator
  • Serves as a contact/resource person for QIO, CMS, Medicaid, ISDH, The Joint Commission, and all other regulatory bodies.
  • Performs Root Cause Analysis on all sentinel events and intensive analysis on near misses. Initiates an action plan for necessary changes of processes
  • Interviews, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of the employees according to the criteria of their job description
  • Counsels, and disciplines departmental employees in consultation with the Human Resources Director and Administration
  • Prepares annual departmental operations, personnel and capital budgets. Reviews DOR as needed to ensure expense control to maintain hospital budgetary requirements
  • Assures that departmental policies and procedures are in place and revised/reviewed and updated and as needed/required
  • Conducts regular meetings with subordinates for purpose of communication, problem solving and evaluation of departments operations. Collaborates with staff to establish, implement and evaluate department’s goals and objectives
  • Evaluates employees’ performance in a timely manner with professional feedback
  • Serves on a variety of hospital committees as required/assigned
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patient, employee and strategic hospital information
  • Attend Code of Conduct training course annually
  • Adherence to HCA’s Code of Conduct
  • Understands and satisfies the needs of the patient population appropriate to the age of the patient served (adults, geriatric, adolescent, pediatric, and parents of neonates)
  • Adheres to the Standards of Behavior for Terre Haute Regional Hospital as per the Customer Relations Policy
  • All other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Office,
    • Above average communication skills in all forms
    • Graduate of an approved school of nursing
    • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana, BSN required
    • Must have comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice
    • Three to five years of clinical nursing experience with previous managerial or leadership experience required
    • Prior experience in utilization/quality review and/or QIO review required or equivalent experience in nursing filed
    • Experience with The Joint Commission and ISDH standards required
      • MS, MBA or related graduate degree
