Job TitleLab Operations Manager Agency Texas A&M Agrilife Research Department Institute for Advancing Health through Agriculture-Project Management Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationCollege Station, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description Job Description The Lab Operations Manager, under general direction, assists in the management of the laboratories in the Norman E. Borlaug facility and its related equipment, services and programs. The position is responsible for services related to facility use (e.g., laboratory equipment maintenance, service contracts, audio/visual systems, and after-hours emergency response as required). The position supports all aspects of a full-service laboratory management program to ensure a safe, healthy and comfortable work environment for employees and visitors. Responsibilities: Oversees the maintenance of laboratories, equipment and instrumentation and arranges for repairs such as autoclaves. Evaluates existing laboratory facilities and recommends improvements. Maintains laboratory equipment inventory and all associated records (service needs, warranty information, etc.) Works with appropriate Business Office to ensure annual inventory process is completed timely. Oversees procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies, chemical storage, safety labeling and inventory control; works with appropriate Business Office to initiate purchase orders for parts, supplies, and equipment; receives and reviews orders; coordinates with PI and or lab/staff to deliver and or install equipment Works with Facility Coordinator on record to oversee the daily operational building function, assists Facility Coordinator to maintain key control /building access Coordinates and moves furniture, furnishings, and equipment, submits work orders for repairs. Works with appropriate Texas A&M University Office to coordinates required lab certifications and requirements in conjunction with offices of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC); assists in development of standard operating procedures for labs Serves as primary POC for all building concerns and inquiries (HVAC, leaks, repairs, etc.); submits work orders in AIM. Helps to ensure the work of contractors or specialized employees performing tasks to ensure completion of work is up to AgriLife standards. Serves as primary contact for after-hours laboratory emergencies. Must be able to promptly respond in person, on site, to after-hours building emergencies. Ensures proper storage, handling and disposal of laboratory waste. Oversee incoming/outgoing shipments including hazardous substances. Ensures adherence to lab standards and practices to maximize safety and operational effectiveness. Works with Facility Coordinator on record to diagnose, repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment; works proactively with SSC to timely perform repairs. e. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years of related work experience. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Managing service contracts for multiple vendors related to scientific equipment including mass-spectrometry, microscopy and other large equipment Experience running an autoclave Experience conducting basic molecular biology Experience using sterile techniques for microbiology Microscopy experience Mass-spectrometry experience Media preparation and autoclaving for sterilization All positions are security-sensitive.
