What we want The Medical Assistant, under supervision, is responsible for providing direct patient care in coordination with clinicians. This role conducts basic office-based medical tasks and performs basic clinical procedures to include injection and medication administrations. The Medical Assistant cleans, sterilizes, and stocks exam rooms and medical equipment. What you need to know Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experience. Other Requirements and Factors: This is a security-sensitive position. The individual in this position must handle Protected Health Information (PHI) defined by HIPAA and FERPA regulations. Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of related experience in a medical office, hospital, nursing home, or home health setting. Preferred Qualifications: Completion of a Medical Assistant course of study. Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant. Previous experience in a college healthcare environment or 3 years of experience in a large clinic or acute care setting. Experience assisting in minor surgical procedures, EKG, spirometry, ear lavage, medication administration, and injectables. Experience in working in Microsoft 365 and Google apps. Experience in documentation in Electronic Health Records. Responsibilities: Patient Care Provides patient care activities daily. Transfers patients from the reception area to exam rooms, measures vital signs, obtains height and weight, interviews patients for medical history, and updates health information in the electronic health record (EHR). Administers medications and injections as directed by a physician or advanced practice provider. Performs basic procedures, including taking electrocardiograms, vision and hearing screening, ear lavage, spirometry and peak flows, nebulizer treatments, throat/nasal swabs, and fitting ortho slings, splints, and braces. Prepares patients for tests, exams, and procedures and explains basic treatment procedures to patients. Assists and/or chaperones providers during exams or procedures. Documents patient care activities in the electronic health record (EHR). Medical Office Greets patients and provides assistance and direction. Answers the telephone and responds to routine inquiries from patients and staff or transfers calls to appropriate unit. Obtains electronic signatures for consent to treat. Assists with inventory and office equipment maintenance for assigned area/clinic. Stocks patient care areas as needed. Safety and Compliance Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes exam rooms and medical instruments in accordance with policies and procedures for infection control. Assists in the organization and upkeep of assigned area to ensure a clean and safe working environment. Completes continuing education as required by certifying board and Student Health Services. Administrative May assist in training student worker nursing assistants. Participates on committees as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
