Who We AreThe Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute, a Department of Energy University Facility, is jointly supported by DOE and the State of Texas and is a major technical and educational resource for the state and the nation. At the Institute, we focus on conducting basic research, educating students in accelerator-based science and technology, and providing technical capabilities for a wide variety of applications in space science, materials science, analytical procedures and nuclear medicine. Approximately 100 Institute members – scientists, engineers, technicians, support staff, graduate students and undergraduate students – are involved in these programs. What We WantThe Electronics Technician II will install, operate, and repair control systems for K150 and K500 Cyclotrons. They will update control system and add hardware and software to new equipment such as power supplies. What You Need To KnowSalary Range: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.
Work Schedule: On called as needed
Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Four years of related experience as an electronics technician
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of test equipment, trained w/windows networking and software management experience, digital voltmeters, oscilloscopes, meters, signal generators, amp meters, voltmeters, and other digital instruments
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Physical Requirements:
  • Sit, stand, lift up moderately heavy weight and climb stairs.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Associates Degree/vocational school
  • B.S Mechatronics Engineering Technology
  • Experience with microcontrollers ARUDINO, TEENSY
  • Programming EAP in C and Labview
  • Experience with embedded systems
Responsibilities:
  • Electronic Circuitry Repair: Troubleshoots and repairs electronic circuits using necessary equipment. Maintains network, software, and hardware used to control K500 and K150 Cyclotrons and associated equipment involved with the expansion of the control system as new equipment is added, and upgrade system as needed.
  • Preventative Maintenance & Design and Fabricate: Performs preventative maintenance. Helps design and fabricate electronic equipment.
  • Documents Repair and Design: Documents, repairs and designs electronics systems using AutoCAD and/or pCad as required.
  • Procedure Establishment: Establishes and oversees standard operating procedures. Performs research tasks and other duties as assigned.
