TEXAS LEADERSHIP PUBLIC SCHOOLS Job Title: Bus Driver Department: Operations Reports To: Transportation Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt GENERAL PURPOSE: All Bus Drivers are to ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned routes. Operate school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated locations. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Vehicle OperationFollow assigned route and adhere to established schedulesPerform daily safety and maintenance checks and keep supervisory informed of any issuesReport all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures. Compile required reportsPerform minor maintenance duties and keep assigned bus clean and fueledStudent ManagementTake student attendance on the school busSee that student’s board and leave the bus, and cross the street in a safe and orderly manner.Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulationsMaintain discipline; Communicate with teachers and parents on a regular basis regarding student behavior while on busSafetyObserve all traffic laws and safety regulations for school busesMaintain all emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar and reflector.Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisory of any conditions that are not correctable immediatelyInstall snow chains during inclement weatherOtherProperly communicate with transportation officeOperate bus during irregular hours as neededKeep safety certification current through training programs requiredBe honest, trustworthy and respectfulDemonstrate sound work ethics and cultural sensitivityBe flexibleMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Required Licenses or Certifications:Must possess a valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License and outstanding driving recordMust possess a valid Texas School Bus Driving Safety certificateMust have an up to date medical physicalRequired Knowledge of:Highway and school bus regulationsHow to deal with the various needs of childrenScheduling and record keeping systemRequired Skill in:Analytical and problem solvingTime managementEffective listening, verbal and written communication skillsPhysical Demands / Work Environment: Work requires sitting for long periods of timeIntense concentration is required, particularly in poor driving conditions
