Texas Workforce Commission is Hiring a Director of Strategic Communications (Hybrid) Near Austin, TX
You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.
Who You AreYou are a passionate storyteller obsessed with finding and telling great stories across various platforms, and an ability to lead a collaborative Communications team effectively and think strategically.
The position reports to the Director of Outreach and Employer Initiatives and works with Commissioners, their staff, executive leadership, and management from across the agency to ensure the right message is shared with the right audience at the right time.
What You Will DoThe Director of Strategic Communications (Director I) performs advanced (senior-level) managerial work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
What You Will Trusted To Do
- You will oversee external communications for the agency. You should be able to set priorities, meet deadlines and be extraordinarily flexible as a day changes. You should know the growth of your team is a vital part of leadership.
- With almost 5,000 employees focused on the workforce needs of Texas, TWC has plenty of content to create and share. Some stories will be in print. Some stories will be in video. Other stories will be online, on social media, or in talking points. Creativity, collaboration, and an eye for detail are musts.
- You will lead the TWC Communications Department, a team of professional writers, multimedia artists, traditional and digital media gurus, and information facilitators. The Communications Department delivers timely, accurate, accessible, and convenient information about the Texas Workforce Commission’s programs and services to the public, media, and internal customers.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university plus five years of full-time experience in the oversight and direction of an agency program; or in strategic planning and policy development and implementation, two years of which must have been in an administrative management or supervisory capacity.
- One year of full-time qualifying experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of education.
- Experience working for a government agency as well as in the private sector
- A keen eye for details while still being able to understand the bigger picture
- Ability to communicate complex policy concepts in easily understood terms
- The salary is $8,750.00-$9,583.33/month
