POSITION: Senior Accountant – Tax Analyst
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Accountant – Tax Analyst will report to the Corporate Controller and will be responsible for supporting Thatcher’s compliance with state, local, and federal tax regulations and filings. This position will primarily be responsible for creating and maintaining sustainable processes for managing all aspects of Sales & Use tax, Property tax, and other industry specific tax. This role will also support the company’s external tax firm with routine deliverables related to income tax.
The ideal candidate will have significant work experience in sales and use tax, in addition to a demonstrated ability to create organized and efficient processes with workflows that support timely payment of tax liabilities and compliance with third-party audits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and leverage Avalara tax software, including updating state sales tax rates, ensuring compliance with state and local sales tax regulations and timely payments.
- Create and administer the end-to-end sales and use tax process, including filing tax returns, reviewing exemption forms, preparing nexus analysis, conducting internal state tax audits, and improving workflow processes.
- Research and monitor state and local tax laws, especially for new ship-to locations, and address state sales and use tax inquiries.
- Assist with various tax preparations and compliance, including real estate, personal property, business tax incentive filings, federal and state income tax compliance, tax provision preparation, and handling tax notices.
- Monitor POs and invoices to ensure proper use tax payment, and work with personnel to improve use tax accuracy.
- Prepare data and deliverables for external tax firm in support of annual income tax filing.
- Maintain effective communication with all Thatcher departments on tax related matters.
- Other accounting related duties may be assigned at the discretion of management.
Desired Qualifications/Skills
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Required: Working knowledge of tax compliance with 3 years related work experience
- Proficiency in commercial ERP systems (SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Workday, Infor)
- Experience with project management/tracking software (preferred)
- Tech-savvy with accounting software, spreadsheets, data analysis
- Highly motivated, committed, and organized self-starter
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements
- Duties require extensive use of computer keyboard and mouse;
- Must be able to sit in one place for extended periods of time, but may also require some limited movement around office location; (Office is 2 floors without elevator between.)
- No heavy lifting required.
