The ADA Forsyth Institute is Hiring a Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Assistant Near Cambridge, MA
DescriptionThe Mark Welch lab in the Department of Microbiology at ADA Forsyth has an immediate opening for a full-time, on-site Postdoctoral Fellow and/or Research Assistant to join our team studying the genomics and spatial organization of microbial communities in the human mouth. Potential projects include investigating the micron-scale spatial organization of microbial communities in samples from the mouth; cultivating previously uncultivated oral bacteria; and analyzing the genomes and distribution of oral microbes using metagenomics and pangenomics. Responsibilities of the position may include bioinformatics; hyperspectral imaging microscopy; computational image analysis; sample preparation including cultivation and maintenance of bacterial cultures; and general lab organization and maintenance. RequirementsApplicants must hold a Ph.D. (for the Postdoctoral Fellow position) or B.A. or B.S. (for the Research Assistant position) in natural sciences or mathematics and must have research experience, strong attention to detail, and willingness to work in a collaborative environment. This position requires the individual to work occasionally at night or on weekends to meet deadlines or carry out complex procedures. Physical requirements include fine motor skills and willingness to work with potentially biohazardous materials and standard laboratory chemicals including fixatives and solvents; appropriate training will be provided.
