The Physical Therapist (PT) will perform physical therapy related health assessments for individuals served utilizing evidence-based practices and within the scope of practice. The Physical Therapist promotes a safe, secure, and dependable environment advancing a higher quality of life for service recipients. The incumbent must be flexible to travel to different locations within the network of the Arc of Union County.
This is a non-exempt and part time position.
This position requires Ability to use Windows software, Ability to use a data entry software such as Therap, Ability to complete Shift and Individual Served ISP Data entry in web based electronic platform.
Thorough understanding of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) policies and guidelines and its application in an interdisciplinary community environment to enhance the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities, mental illness and associated multimorbidities.
Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) degree or Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an approved school of physical therapy required. New Jersey Physical Therapist License required. Five or more years of experience working in an adult rehabilitation setting with individuals with developmental or related disabilities.
Create a plan for rehabilitation for service recipients with physical injuries or illnesses to regain range of movement and control their pain without putting them at risk of further injury.
Design and implement plans that involve stretching, strength training, exercises and physical manipulation to help service recipients recover from loss of motor function due to accidents, illness or age.
Ensure adherence to prescribed/recommended home exercises, and adequate and proportional use of adaptive equipment.
Responsible to educate service recipients and staff about Physical Therapy related disease process and promote motivation during ongoing therapy.
Perform diagnostic tests and measurements, such as the mobility/range of joints, transfer status, stability, patterns and appearance of ambulation, strength and endurance of muscles, balance testing, and safety assessments.
Ensure safe operation of equipment by recommending preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions and calling for repairs, etc.
Communicate with attending physician and/or external physical therapy professionals and ensure that service recipients are being discharged appropriately and with evidence-based home rehabilitative protocols and treatment plans.
This position requires an employee to perform duties in an indoor and or outside setting where exposure to weather elements, dirt, and dust, unpleasant smells, and/or loud noises are possible including occasional temperature fluctuations depending on the climate/season/weather. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to maintain a stationary position (standing and sitting), move/traverse, kneel, bend, reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time, twist, carry, lift up to 35 pounds, squat and drive a 6-person passenger van, may require operating manual devices such as hydraulic lifts, wheelchair lifts, vehicle doors, etc. for the purpose of transporting service recipients.
