The Ashton Company, Inc., Contractors and Engineers is a heavy civil contractor founded in 1946 based in Tucson, Arizona. The Company employees both union and non-union craft employees building projects for public and private clients in the transportation, water, commercial, mining and industrial market sectors. The Controller is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the Accounting and Treasury functions and is involved in all financial decisions within the company.

Primary Responsibilities

• Supervise Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accounting, and Receptionist staff. Set and maintain weekly and monthly Accounting deadlines.
• Manage the compilation of financial results for the Company. Produce monthly and quarterly financial statements.
• Represent the organization in financial matters involving stakeholders outside the organization, including: Financial institutions for cash management and retention substitution, Surety and insurance companies involving the bonding and needed insurance for projects,
• Write, update, and enforce policies and procedures for Department.
• Interface with inside, outside, and governmental auditors. Examples include 401K, AZ DES, third party audits.
• Prepare time-sensitive documents required for submission for pre-qualifications and bid proposals
• Represent accounting in any needs from the projects regarding job costs, billing, accounts payable, and any other financial reporting needs
• Participate actively in job cost meetings and provide pertinent information regarding financial results of the projects
• Compile projections for the company and challenge information received in order to obtain optimal accuracy of data
• Training of staff and stakeholders regarding cost projection and financial information
• Monitor cash needs of company
• Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
• Minimum ten years of accounting management experience.
• Construction experience preferred.
• Minimum of four years tax experience
• Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and familiarity with ERP systems
• Ability to multi-task.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to follow through on commitments and projects
• Strong planning and organizational
• Excellent communication skills (listening, verbal and written)
• Enthusiastic team player with a strong drive to create a positive work environment
• Ability and desire to work in a fast paced environment
