The Auburn School is Hiring a Lead Teacher or Instructional Assistant Near Washington, DC

Openings:

Auburn currently has openings for:

  • Lead Middle School Teacher (grades 6-8, “twice exceptional” students)
  • Lead Elementary Teacher (grades K-1, students with emerging communication skills)
  • Instructional Assistants (both elementary and middle school positions available)

The Opportunity:

The Lead Teacher will follow assigned Auburn curriculum with the freedom to create unique assignments and lessons. The Lead Teacher is responsible for creating and teaching lessons for assigned academic subjects, provide guidance to Instructional Assistants, communicate with staff/families about student concerns, coach students through social conflict/executive functioning difficulties, and update academic reporting six times per year (3 progress reports, 3 report cards).

The Instructional Assistant will assist Lead Teachers in delivering assigned Auburn curriculum, providing input to Lead Teachers as an active partner in the classroom. The Instructional Assistant will take data on students during all classroom activities as a part of Auburn's extensive PBIS program. The Instructional Assistant will provide instruction and take on the role of the Lead Teacher if/when the Lead Teacher is absent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following. Other duties as assigned. 

  • Teach knowledge and skills, nurture confidence and character, and meet the needs of all students by utilizing SESI instructional models, strategies, and curriculum
  • Develop and maintain individualized lessons that provide a balance of standards-based and skills-based instruction aligned with student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) 
  • Utilize school’s behavior support and intervention strategies 
  • Establish and maintain student forms and files as required by SESI, local, state, and/or federal agencies including but not limited to: Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Behavior Intervention Plans, Incident Reports, High-Risk Evaluation Forms, etc. 
  • Drive, record, and track student growth and progress towards academic, social, and emotional goals 
  • Supervise students and ensure they are always monitored, including to and from appropriate locations within the school 
  • Light lifting, walking, and/or climbing stairs may be required 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning required
  • Commitment to teaching neurodiverse students
  • Open to learning and implementing feedback
  • Ability to adapt and remain flexible
  • Valid teaching credential appropriate to the role (optional)
  • Special education or in the content - All subjects (optional)
