The Piping Engineer will have comprehensive understanding of principles, theories, concepts, and industry practices and standards and their application. They will be responsible for performing all aspects of engineering and design and independently performing a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard design engineering techniques for a small project or selected segments of a larger project to produce designs that satisfy the requirements of building designs in accordance with applicable governing codes. This requires the application of standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria where the scope is already outlined in the form of contract drawings, specifications, one-line drawings and component estimates derived. They are capable of exercising independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to make minor design adaptations and modifications. The Piping Engineer will work under minimal supervision and may provide some technical guidance to less experienced design and engineering personnel.

Requirements
- Requires a BS in an Engineering discipline and typically 4-10 years related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
- Considerable experience in utilizing various computer software packages such as Revit and other automated engineering and design equipment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
- Must be able to walk job sites which would include the ability to clime stairs and navigate construction sites.
- The majority of work is performed indoors with occasional site visits to projects.
- Up to 20% by both air and ground travel.
- Performs detailed calculations and specifications and prepares working drawings and performs detailed calculations for a small project or a detailed segment of a larger project.
- Prepares technical specifications for review and approval.
- Responsible for the selection of materials to be used to satisfy the scope of the project.
- Evaluates vendors’ bids and shop drawings to assure compliance with specifications and requirements of the project.
- Reviews and approves design drawings of other employees or offices for an assigned segment of a project.
- Takes a lead role in working with other disciplines to ensure there are no conflicts or interferences between systems.
- Coordinates with field personnel and contractors to resolve problems that arise during construction. Frequently inspects construction projects for compliance with the engineering drawings and specifications.
- Uses Revit, Plant 3d, or similar for piping design within engineering design projects
- Familiar working within the Piping Design Criteria (code, functionality) for mid-size to large projects.
- Works as Piping lead for small to mid size projects.
- Supports the develop conceptual to detailed design of piping systems for process and production equipment and systems
- Experienced developing Piping models, Orthographic and Isometric Drawings, Materials Take Offs/ Bills of Materials for the piping designed , suitable for procurement, fabrication, construction, and installation
- Familiar coordinating piping designs with PFD/P&IDs, Equipment, and Instrumentation, as well as plant and utility infrastructure groups.
- Familiar working with and considering specifications for piping materials, valving, and gasketing, including familiarity of chemical compatibility and good industry practices.
- Performs field walk downs of existing systems and systems during construction to as-building of drawings.
- Performs review of piping vendor submittals and drawing approval sets including leading collaboration with other in-house disciplines.
- Performs model reviews and digital walkthroughs with internal and client teams.
- Performs equipment sizing calculations and pipe stress analyses.
- Works with Process and Equipment to update and maintains piping line list, and equipment and specialty items list.
- Works with PFDs and P&IDs, including providing equipment information.
- Leads piping design effort on mid-size to large projects.
- Collaborate with other discipline leads.
- Working familiarity of the following Codes and Standards:
- ASME Process Piping (B31.3)
- PIP and PSM
- International Building Code (IBC)
- Working familiarity of the following Software packages:
- Design and Review: Revit, ACC/BIM360, Plant 3D, Navisworks, Revizto, CAESAR II
- Project and Productivity: Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams), Procore, Bluebeam
