LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE (Leave Coverage) - ENGLISH (L2/ELA/ESL) LANGUAGE TEACHER - LOWER SCHOOL (Grades 2-5):

DEFINITE POSITION:
  • ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE (L2/ELA/ELS) Teacher (Long Term Sub) – ENGLISH Language Arts classroom teacher (multiple groups) in grades 2, 3, 4, 5.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA or equivalent in Elementary Education (or related field).
  • At least 5 years full-time teaching experience.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in target instructional language (English, Spanish, or French).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master degree in Elementary Education (or related field).
  • Certification in elementary education and/or related subject area
  • International and/or independent school experience.
  • Bilingual (or highly proficient) in another language (Spanish, French, English).
APPLICANTS SHOULD:
  • Possess excellent teaching skills and pedagogy appropriate for young children
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of the application of interactive methodologies, online teaching, technology integration and other learning software, applications and/or platforms.
  • Be well versed in current research and best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Be able to integrate varied activities that develop language, motor, and cognitive skills into the daily educational experience of students.
  • Foster cross-cultural understanding within the classroom and curriculum
  • Be able to create a positive learning environment that is rich in structure, developmentally appropriate and academically rigorous.
  • Demonstrate understanding of, and commitment to, childhood social, emotional and intellectual development within an international school setting.
THE ROLE: A teacher at The Awty International School is expected to meet the following expectations:
  1. Homeroom Teacher: Effectively teach multiple subjects (math, reading, writing, science and social studies) in the target language (listed above), including the undertaking of appropriate lesson preparation and assessing and evaluating students.
  2. L2 Language Teacher: Effectively teach language arts in the target language (English, Spanish or French), including the undertaking of appropriate lesson preparation and assessing and evaluating students.
  3. Collaborating with other teachers on the team in unit, lesson and event planning.
  4. Attending and positively contributing to grade, faculty, division and all-school meetings as necessary.
  5. Performing snack, lunch, recess and other supervision duties as required.
  6. Contributing to the wider life of the school in areas such as special projects and presentations, field trips and service learning activities as well as attending curriculum nights, open houses, prospective parent meetings, and other school and parent events.
