Summary Of Working As a Healthy Start Doula
The Healthy Start Doula will implement The Baby Fold's NEW community based doula services, an extension of the Healthy Start Home Visiting Program. This role assists with parent child interactions and developmental parenting with attention to family wellbeing, prior to the child’s birth. The Healthy Start Doula will engage expectant families who voluntarily enroll in the Healthy Start program to help them feel confident in their role as a parent. In-home services begin during pregnancy and continue until the child turns three years old. Utilizing trauma informed principles, the Healthy Start Doula provides physical and emotional support during pregnancy, labor, and the post-partum period. The Healthy Start Doula maintains regular contact and support with the enrolled families building trusting relationships. Attends births, conducts community outreach, facilitates prenatal education services, and advocates for participant families
LOCATION: 318 Susan Drive, Normal, with field work in McLean County expected
WORK SCHEDULE: Flexible, self-determined, 37.5 hours/week Monday - Friday with some on-call expectations to attend live births with clients
PAY: salary/exempt, based on experience, education, and relevant certifications
Responsibilities
Family Relations: Responsible for attending a minimum of births a year as determined by the grant requirements Organizes and facilitates prenatal groups per grant requirements. Provides evidence-based, accurate information, education, and resources that will prepare the families for the pregnancy, birth process, and care and feeding of infant
Assessment: Provides a trauma-informed screening and assessment including obtaining client and family histories to determine exposure to trauma/childhood adversity, risk factors. Assesses the strengths and needs of clients, initially and throughout the period of service provision. Uses a strength-based, family-centered, and relationship-based approach in providing services to young families, recognizing the importance of involving clients/parents/caregivers as partners throughout service provision.
On-Call: Provide on call services on a rotating basis to attend live births as needed to meet the needs of the agency and families we serve.
Recordkeeping and Reporting: Completes and maintains case notes, client records, reports and other required documentation according to agency guidelines for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
Travel and Transportation: Must travel for job responsibilities, including the ability to drive distances to enter the homes of families throughout the Central Illinois service area, a valid driver’s license that has not been suspended or revoked within the past three years and use of a personal vehicle with adequate insurance.
Minimum Requirements Of a Healthy Start Doula
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field required.
Two years of relevant work experience in home visiting or early childhood programs strongly preferred.
Doula training through DONA will be provided by agency with 3 years from time training is finished to complete certification.
